This week, I learned...

1. Camming is way more fun than $120,000 in student loans for nursing school.

2. Smoking pot before a job interview is totally acceptable.

3. Cocaine is a hell of a drug.... (...that gives you renal failure, heart failure and cardiomegaly)

4. If you tell someone you need to get deer ticks off of testicles, you will have an audience.

5. Night shift. Glorious, glorious night shift. I haven't slept in days, but I got to actually do a good, thorough job changing a bandage and OMG.... I taught people actual STUFF. I miss night shift.

6. I keep forgetting I'm old enough now that doctors can and will be younger than me. It's okay, though, because I look younger than them.

7. Literally every person could end every post with "wait 24 hours before you do the PVT, and people will still brag about their good pop up and offer advice on how to pass.

8. People are actually able to spend $120,000 on nursing school. This girl said $20,000 per semester. I'm pretty sure she says BSN. I'm not sure if she realizes her math is off. But still.... It's crazy.

9. I'm nearing a breaking point on some personal life stuff and confess I've secretly been glad to escape it to go to work.

Did you learn anything worth sharing?

Specializes in NICU, ICU, PICU, Academia.

Everything you learned PLUS:

Putting lotion on your feet and rearranging your backpack instead of paying attention to the pediatric CV surgeon detailing the life-saving surgery your child needs will not earn you any brownie points from the nursing staff.

I'll probably post more than once- hope I learn a lot this week!

So far I've learned that I have started talking about "my nurse friends on AN" when I meet other nurses.

Talking to an OR nurse last night at a party, she is cool and lovely and smart and funny. I told her to check us out (but I didn't tell her my name!)

I've learned people are kind here. They forgive my "not acting like a human being" and see me as coming here to play and unwind. Unexpected support on the Blue Side in the form of PMs for a mushy post about my son: it meant the world to me.

Specializes in Pediatrics, Emergency, Trauma.

-Number 6...especially number 6.

-That I really can delegate; and absolutely need to without feelings guilty about it.

-That I can trust SOME people who wear bow ties ;)

Specializes in OR, Nursing Professional Development.

#6 Finally happened to me. :( And here I thought I was still relatively young.

But then I remembered that age is simply a number and doesn't speak to life experiences, happiness, or any of the really important stuff.

Just make sure when you delegate you don't tell the patient MY tech or MY aide is going to help. Use their name:p

1) something is wrong with Farawyn and I must go to the blue side but my laptop is outside on the trampoline.

2) my body is too old for trampoline sleepovers with my 9 year olds.

3) I get awfully angry when these people get up in arms because "the regulars" don't give them the answers they want. Whining little turds.

4) I learn a lot from this site. I'm happy I found it.

Specializes in LTC, assisted living, med-surg, psych.

I have learned what "camming" is.

I wonder if I can "cam" my way through nursing school. Alas, I'm fat and almost middle aged. Plus my husband would be livid ::sigh::

OH not related to nursing AT ALL but I learn that the brothel a few minutes from my house has amazing food.

Specializes in Emergency.

That if you set it to "w" for wumbo you'll enjoy every moment!

Specializes in 15 years in ICU, 22 years in PACU.

1. I like the way the word camming looks in print.

2. I am hesitant to click on the "Students" tab for fear of reading something so stupid I'll accidentally respond with something so snarky I'll get moderator points assessed.

3. There is a cure for Hep C.

4. $4000 is not too much to spend on a hot tub that is 104 degrees of instant pleasure after a 12 hour shift.

5. The nursing school where I got my BSN currently costs over $38,000 per year just for tuition.

6. Caitlyn Jenner is a pretty good looking woman.

Yea, um, 6, no. Fair to middlin' IMO.

I really like her, though. I liked Bruce, too.
