QuoteThe abortion law builds on legislation passed in 2010 that represented a major shift for a traditionally Catholic country, transforming Spain into one of the most progressive countries in Europe on reproductive rights. Spain's constitutional court last week rejected a challenge by the right-wing Popular Party against allowing abortions in the first 14 weeks of pregnancy.
The debate will be heated in Spain, I imagine, as the conservative opposition pushes back. My daughter had horrible menstrual pain during her adolescence and young adulthood. I'm certain that she would have benefitted from that time.
Central Park Five members file defamation lawsuit against Trump
QuoteDuring the debate, Harris criticized the Republican presidential nominee for taking out a full-page ad in The New York Times soon after the attacks that called on New York to "send a message loud and clear to those who would murder our citizens and terrorize New York" by bringing back the death penalty.
The lawsuit argues that Trump's statements in response to Harris are "demonstrably false," as the Central Park Five — all of whom are plaintiffs in the case — never pleaded guilty, and the victims of the assaults weren't killed.
QuoteSteven Cheung, a spokesman for the Trump campaign, criticized the lawsuit as frivolous and an attempt to "interfere" in the upcoming presidential election.
"The frantic lawfare efforts by Lyin' Kamala's allies to interfere in the election are going nowhere and President Trump is dominating as he marches to a historic win for the American people on November 5th," Cheung said in a statement.
Oops. We all heard what he said.
Alexander Vindman's Why It Matters substack newsletter today: North Korean Troops in Ukraine
Quote
According to recent statements from President Zelensky and his military intelligence chief, North Korea is preparing to deploy 10,000 troops to serve alongside the Russian military in Eastern Ukraine. This claim follows earlier reports citing an unnamed Western source that this contingent had already arrived in Russia and that 18 North Korean personnel had allegedly deserted before being deployed to Ukraine. This development comes after months of North Korea providing direct material support to the Russian war effort, with current estimates suggesting that over one million shells have been delivered since August 2023.
The presence of North Korean soldiers in Ukraine should be a wake-up call to the administration. While Washington struggles to consistently provide already purchased and manufactured war material to Ukraine, the United States' enemies have mobilized their industrial capacity to support Russia's invasion. Pyongyang feeds Moscow a stream of artillery shells compatible with Soviet-designed artillery, Tehran builds Shahed loitering munitions in Russia using trafficked international students, and Beijing expands its joint weapons program while Washington dithers. Even our allies have sensed a slack in the pace of our support and have stepped up security assistance: Australia is set to deliver 49 Abrams tanks to Ukraine, an amount considerably larger than the 31 delivered by the United States last year yet still not enough for Ukraine to conduct NATO-standard combined arms operations.
Let's be clear: this development is downstream of the administration's failed policy of de-escalation with Russia. After an initial period of unambiguous support for Kyiv, the United States has repeatedly compromised Ukrainian military effectiveness through a combination of domestic political dysfunction and the pursuit of "de-escalation". The United States' failure to sustain meaningful material support and reluctance to commit itself to Ukrainian victory has encouraged our enemies to supply Russia's warmachine with material support and potentially manpower....

Speaking of the "access of autocrats" (fantastic description by the way) has anyone considered that trump with his ties to Russia (7 phone calls to Putin since exiting the Oval Office), his "love letters" to & from Kim, his admiration of Chi, that he may be in clandestine negotiations with these men to provide troops to enhance the militias here should they need help in their civil unrest surrounding the election? This would be not unlike how the US backed various warlords in Afghanistan during their war with the Soviets.
Yes, I'm seeing boogie men around the corners, more like Bugaloo Boyz around the corner. But is it really outlandish given how desperate trump is now?
Just trying to cover all the bases. If Kim can send troops to participate in Russia's war of aggression it seems he would be interested in having a stake in our civil unrest during & after the election. Just sayin'.

Woke up to 10 inches of snow and then it started raining. I had a cup of tea, fed the dogs and then got the shovel out. I made our pathways to the vehicles and to the barn by 0900 and they are now iced in to place for the Winter.

I can tolerate large quantities of snow, but frozen rain on top of it is treacherous. I learned in Idaho to clear out paths ASAP. I'll bet it's beautiful.

QuoteA Russian-aligned propaganda network notorious for creating deepfake whistleblower videos appears to be behind a coordinated effort to promote wild and baseless claims that Minnesota governor and vice presidentialcandidate Tim Walz sexually assaulted one of his former students, according to several specialists tracking the disinformation campaign.

Did you skip over the part that there are links to the Russian propaganda network? Do you think that Russian (or other) propaganda should just be allowed and tolerated or ignored? Can you have an actual discussion about this or are you all snark as the election nears?
