QuoteThe abortion law builds on legislation passed in 2010 that represented a major shift for a traditionally Catholic country, transforming Spain into one of the most progressive countries in Europe on reproductive rights. Spain's constitutional court last week rejected a challenge by the right-wing Popular Party against allowing abortions in the first 14 weeks of pregnancy.
The debate will be heated in Spain, I imagine, as the conservative opposition pushes back. My daughter had horrible menstrual pain during her adolescence and young adulthood. I'm certain that she would have benefitted from that time.

Right wing feelings about immigration seem to be unmoveable by facts or evidence and based primarily in fears that aren't supported by the data but are repeated over and over again.
Reduction in illegal crossings from a record high number. And only recently have these numbers been reduced.
Trump's highest number arround 1 million in 2019.
Lowest just under 500.000
Bidens highest number 2 million 2021.
Lowest around 1.5 million.
Is this the "facts and evidence " you speak of?
QuoteThe estimated population of unauthorized immigrants in the U.S. stands at around 11 million people. Although the number has stabilized, the United States has seen a spike in migrant encounters in the last few years, with over two million cases registered by the U.S. Border Patrol in 2023.

Your post had been edited since I saw it and replied.
That chant was Harris's. It was in a video I posted a link to. You had a lengthy reply to that post. My assumption then was that viewed it.
Beerman said:I don't see how it's wrong to deport those who arrived illegally.
Even if he fails at his grand deportation plan, he'll at least shore up the border and drastically cut new arrivals. In comparison to Harris or any other Democrat I can think, I'll take it.
I know as someone who favors decriminalizing illegal immigration and amnesty, you hold the opposite view.
I am much more fearful of mass acts of terrorism due to Biden's lax border policy than I am of Trump's "threat to democracy." I bet you may be as well if you were to share your honest opinion.
If you look at the stats, Trump has the least illegal crossings from 1990 to 2023.
Many radical democrats would welcome a terrorist attack as L9ng as they "stop Trump". And they would go into overdrive trying to blame Trump.
Beerman said:Our immigration laws allow for the arrest, detention, and deportation of those who entered illegally. A President who enforces those laws then couldn't be considered a authoritarian for doing so. A "detention camp" isn't comparable to an internment camp like you keep implying. The illegal immigrants have committed a crime. Japanese and others in internment camps did not.
You're not on the wrong side of the issue because Trump demonizes immigrants. It's because Joe Biden let millions in and in many places they are overwhelming communities and their resources. In some instances committing crimes. In some instances committing crimes and being released to commit more.
In some cases being a nuisance. My Obama-loving coworker doesn't care for (putting it mildly) Venezuelans approaching her car at a stoplight and knocking on her window because they want to wash her windshield for money.
How about those who came legally? Now having to compete in line for resources and a pathway to stay.
What are you going to say when the next 9/11 happens because bad people were easily able to get here and stay?
It's the Joe Biden Welcome Mat Policy that purposely poured gasoline on the immigration dumpster fire.
Well said!
Beerman said:The Republicans voted it down in short because the bill did nothing to reduce the numbers coming.
The left-leaning American Immigration Council thought it was a bad bill for that reason and others.
When Ukraine funding was taken away from it, many Democrats turned against it.
And the democrats knew it wouldn't pass. Perfectly planned to paint the Republicans as "not securing the border".
toomuchbaloney said:Is this a new chant in Trump world? Outside of that, it doesn't seem to make much sense.
There is a video clip of Harris at a parade, chanting with marchers in 2018. Therefore, a 6 year old clip has suddenly become her border policy. Not what is stated on her website, not her proposal to pass a bipartisan bill to improve border security, not addressing badly needed immigration reform, but a chant from a parade that is several years old.

Do you have reason to believe her stance against deportation has changed?
I suppose you believe she's now pro fracking as well?

To question one, likely. I looked for context for the chant from the parade in 2018, and couldn't find any. I do think she has evolved to a more nuanced stance.
As to fracking, I think she understands how important fracking is to local communities. However, as the US moves away from petroleum based sources of energy, fracking may become obsolete.
Crusades said:You seem to be unaware that is not only "right wing" feeling on the impact of migration.
"Facts" or "evidence " according to who?
Why would we believe these proposed "facts" and "evidence" produced by the WH after hearing for 3 yrs that the "border is secure and there is no crisis" by Biden and Harris. Only to have them flip the idea and now claim there is a crisis right around election time? Then come up with a ridiculous bill that is unnecessary as there is no new bill needed if Biden did his job as POTUS. In the last 4 yrs Biden/Harris could have shut the border with current laws in place.
I know. It must be this political theater you ramble on about.
This is a preview of what a Harris presidency would look like.

So was Biden lying or confused?
Am I unaware?
Facts and evidence according to the experts.
https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/national-media-release/cbp-releases-July-2024-monthly-update
Why would a Trump voter believe facts and evidence that contradict their beliefs and feelings about the border when they've been happy to believe nonsense about a pandemic and election security because of their beliefs and feelings? There's no reason to expect the people who try to explain away January 6th or believe that Fauci was our problem during covid will rely upon facts or data or expert voices when it comes to immigration.
I love the coulda/woulda/shoulda speculation when the biggest example of that was the sweeping bipartsan legislation that republicans sacrificed for Trump's favor.
Why would it matter if Biden was either lying or confused? First, Biden isn't running for office and second, the guy you are happy to vote for is a pathological liar and felon suffering from dementia. That means that confusion and lies can't possibly matter to you.
Crusades said:The reason the crossings are down is due to the weather, not because of Bidens "actions".
This doesn't answer my question. Fewer crossings is fewer crossings, no matter the reason. So, I think to those who always squawking about "open borders", this seems like it's a good thing.
Yes, hotter weather suppresses migration. But the Biden administration is limiting asylum requests and turning back applicants. Also, at the request of the US, Mexico is preventing migrants from reaching the border.

Oh really? One word doesn't associate one with the "bad guy"?. So all the twisted cherry picked analogy likening Trump to Hitler are also not equal to policy?
Did you not once claim that Trump was "personally trained" by a nameless neo nazi?
Using that standard, it could be said that Harris not only was trained by a Marxist, she grew up with one. Her father? A Marxist professor?
