The abortion law builds on legislation passed in 2010 that represented a major shift for a traditionally Catholic country, transforming Spain into one of the most progressive countries in Europe on reproductive rights. Spain's constitutional court last week rejected a challenge by the right-wing Popular Party against allowing abortions in the first 14 weeks of pregnancy.

The debate will be heated in Spain, I imagine, as the conservative opposition pushes back. My daughter had horrible menstrual pain during her adolescence and young adulthood.  I'm certain that she would have benefitted from that time.

Crime, including serious violent incidents like murder and rape, dropped nationally from 2022 to 2023, according to new data released by the FBI on Monday.

Violent crime was down about 3% from 2022 to 2023, and property crime took a similar drop of 2.4%, the FBI reported in its annual "Summary of Crime in the Nation." The most serious crimes went down significantly: murder and non-negligent manslaughter were down an estimated 11.6% — the largest single year decline in two decades — while rape decreased by an estimated 9.4%.

Will the campaign rhetoric from the right shift to accommodate the truth?

Quote

Public perception of crime is often out of step with the facts, especially in the age of social media, ease of digital communications between neighbors and doorbell cameras, when Americans may be more aware of individual crimes than they would have been in the past.

But the violent crime rate dropped from 2022 to 2023, from 377.1 violent crimes per 100,000 people in 2022 to 363.8 violent crimes per 100,000 people in 2023, the new FBI data shows.

Public perception of crime may be affected by rhetoric.

Quote

More than three years ago, a small group of government scientists came forward with disturbing allegations.

During President Donald Trump's administration, they said, their managers at the Environmental Protection Agency began pressuring them to make new chemicals they were vetting seem safer than they really were. They were encouraged to delete evidence of chemicals' harms, including cancer, miscarriage and neurological problems, from their reports — and in some cases, they said, their managers deleted the information themselves.

Quote

On Wednesday, the EPA inspector general announced that it had found that some of the treatment experienced by three of those scientists — Martin Phillips, Sarah Gallagher and William Irwin — amounted to retaliation.

Three reports issued by the inspector general confirmed that the scientists' negative performance reviews as well as a reassignment and the denial of an award that can be used for cash or time off were retaliatory. They also detailed personal attacks by supervisors, who called them "stupid,” "piranhas" and "pot-stirrers.”

It appears that Trump's unethical and corrupt influence adversely affected the EPA too. It would be crazy to reelect him.

The only reason the USA would need detention camps is because Trump or some other right wing authoritarian might want to round up millions of immigrants and deport them.  All that right wing authoritarian has to do is "other" the immigrants and convince some of the population that they are poisoning the blood of the country.  If they sufficiently demonize the others, lots of Americans will go along with all manner of cruelty.

Supporting a pathway to citizenship for people who arrived here as children is a popular position.

We all watched the GOP demonstrate that the border is too juicy as a compaign issue to actually pass legislation which would improve border security. We all also understand that Trump wants to project that political theater onto liberals, projection is a liar's favorite tool.

The chickens will be home to roost when the American people remind Trump that 1) he was fired once before after completely failing the leadership test of a pandemic, and 2) and people who attempt to overthrow our elected government are traitors who shouldn't be anywhere near that power again.

That's true even if you try to attach other troubled people, like Smollett, to Harris.  Or, maybe we should examine the character of the people in the inner circles of the two candidates, as if character actually matters to Trump voters.

When you use the deceptive word "immigrants " instead of the actual term "illegal immigrants " the blatant propaganda of the left msm and cohorted deception is blatantly evident.

I highly doubt that you just forget to put illegal in front of "immigrant" when you post about this topic.

The border bill also included ridiculous funding to Ukraine. Not to mention a new bill is redundant when the Biden/Harris administration could act on the border right now. No bill required. Other than political stunt to cast Republicans for not acting for border security.  Fallacy by omission. Just like the "illegal " and the "illegal" immigrant propaganda.

You seem to allocate "projection " allot but fail to explain what the "projection " is. It's an easy way to avoid having a conversation with substance.

"Whatever you say is what you are doing". Is an adult way to say, "what you say is what you are" but without the "nah nah nah".

Doubtful we'll ever have "millions in camps."

The only reason we may need detention camps is due to the Biden administration's welcome mat illegal immigration policy.

I said here years ago that the Democrats want to welcome in as many immigrants as possibe to overwhelm our immigration system and throw it into chaos.

Goal accomplished.

To fix it, for those who know its broken, we need to start with securing the border and deter more from coming illegally.  If "detention camps" is part of that answer, so be it.

As much as Democrats and candidate Harris pretend to, they don't care to fix it.  And it may very well be what costs them the election.

To borrow the words from Obama's friend and pastor, the chickens are coming home to roost.

And how do you plan to control people who enter illegally?  It's an awfully long border with not enough investment in staff of technology.  Why do you think the Republicans voted this down?

And now he's trying, in advance, to blame the Jews if he loses.  Sounds like 1937 to me.

This event happened during Trump's 4 years so this means he was behind the mistreatment ? There is no evidence Trump was influencing these unnamed "supervisors" to do anything.

The only correlation to Trump is that these people were bullied by other people the same time Trump was on office. Pleeeeeeeeees.

Last night, Trump told a crowd in Pennsylvania that the Haitian people in Springfield, OH, who are here legally, must be deported. So he doesn't care if they are legal or illegal. Funny, though, he never talks about the need to deport the 176,000 Ukrainians who are here under the same parole program as the Haitians.

Why do you think that is?

I'll have to research that one. I'm sure there was some cutting and editing of these words.

The point was the propaganda tactic to purposly miss use words to push a false narrative. "Immigrants " vs "illegal immigrants ". It's a way to fool the public into thinking "Trump wants /hates immigrants....bla bla....".

What makes you sure? Would there be something wrong with deporting people who are in the USA legally?
While you are researching, check out when he said he was going to deport the Haitians to Venezuela. I think that was Saturday.
