The abortion law builds on legislation passed in 2010 that represented a major shift for a traditionally Catholic country, transforming Spain into one of the most progressive countries in Europe on reproductive rights. Spain's constitutional court last week rejected a challenge by the right-wing Popular Party against allowing abortions in the first 14 weeks of pregnancy.

The debate will be heated in Spain, I imagine, as the conservative opposition pushes back. My daughter had horrible menstrual pain during her adolescence and young adulthood.  I'm certain that she would have benefitted from that time.

I'm really happy to read the stock market has done well.  For me having a good month is a good thing but looking at my personal funds (and this is just me) while it's risen significantly, I still haven't recovered from the huge losses earlier in the year.  The max my funds were was on January 31 and then went down and then up from there.

The caveat is that I'm only $3K lower than 1/31 so it's not that bad.  Usually after five months I would see some growth and at my age that's what I hope for.

The market goes up and down.

The DJIA and S&P 500 are higher today than they were last fall.  And up significantly over the last year.

The sky did not fall as was being reported.

As a 30 year investor I know very much about ups and downs.  I survived the great recession and many ups and downs.

My point is that it dropped so much a comeback of course is significant but it still falls flat.  But glad the sky didn't fall and the down this time didn't last too long.  Hope the current administration doesn't *** it up.

The agents entered Mr. Nadler's office because they had been told that protesters were there and were concerned for the safety of his staff members, according to a statement on Saturday from the Department of Homeland Security.

When they arrived, "one individual became verbally confrontational and physically blocked access to the office,” the statement said. That person, an aide to the congressman, was detained so the officers could complete their safety check, according to the statement.

In the video, a second aide standing at a door in the office asks one of the agents to show her a warrant. The agent says the officers do not need a warrant and walks past her.

Robert Gottheim, Mr. Nadler's chief of staff, strongly disputed the Homeland Security Department's description of events. Instead, he said, it appeared the agents were angry because members of the congressman's staff had seen the officers detaining migrants in the building, and because advocates who had also witnessed the detentions outside the courtroom had been invited by the staff members to Mr. Nadler's office.

They don't need warrants to enter private offices.

"Safety check"

It looked like the officers were angry that their "authority" was defied.

TThat they thought the office was "haboring rioters" goes back to the notion that protestors are the enemy, when protesting is what makes us American.

What they think and believe apparently gives them authority to enter private spaces without warrants and to threaten or detain people in the vicinity of they aren't helpful.  This is not our grandpa's free democratic republic.

Good thing the voters of Michigan elected people who would prosecute the political criminals.  Would this qualify as a witch hunt?

We are creating a significant trade deficit with fewer foreigners traveling to visit the USA because of current political policy.  How ironic.

Poland has outpaced much of the EU economically lately and is poised to be one of the superpowers of Europe.  I've also ready of, like the US, that there are some deep political divides there.  If Trump and the president of Hungary like this guy, it's likely I wouldn't.  LOL

Yesterday I was reading that he lost, but apparently squeaked by with 50.89 of the vote.

The market is not the economy.  I don't pay much attention to the doomscrolling because no one understands the why any particular broker will react to a single change, say, in the price of aluminum on Monday .  One person sees chaos and another sees opportunity.

It took a long time to get the Chatfields but it's been worth it.  This whole mess started with him sleeping with his 17year old  future sister in law.  This against the background of the "Christian" school that they ran.  It will lessen my depression to see them in prison.

They man wants strong borders and violent criminals to be prosecuted similar to the political philosophies of Trump and Orban.  Considering how far the EU has fallen he is definitely a beacon of light in dark and dangerous times.
