The abortion law builds on legislation passed in 2010 that represented a major shift for a traditionally Catholic country, transforming Spain into one of the most progressive countries in Europe on reproductive rights. Spain's constitutional court last week rejected a challenge by the right-wing Popular Party against allowing abortions in the first 14 weeks of pregnancy.

The debate will be heated in Spain, I imagine, as the conservative opposition pushes back. My daughter had horrible menstrual pain during her adolescence and young adulthood.  I'm certain that she would have benefitted from that time.

I'm not going to say they are actually doing a Nazi salute and meant it as such, and not "something else" because there are adults in the picture and they are smiling.  But it is a Nazi salute, right arm raised with palm flat.  It's not racism to see it.  At the very least it's really poor taste and poor judgement on the adult's part.

Burning of someone else's Pride Flag is a hate crime in my opinion.

I spoke last year about how in recent years Pride has felt different to me the past few years.  That is seemed like we were on the verge of co-existing and the pushback was minimal like it always has been.    I'm not the only one:

I've noticed the pride celebrations are more toned down this year. I wonder why?

In your opinion it's exploited.  It's never bad or out of season to shine light on groups of people who think that Nazi symbolism is funny or clever.

Sadly, the city of Lancaster about an hour/hour and a half away had a completely opposite reaction to drag queen story time.

The NYT also has a story on this but it's behind a paywall.

In its annual analysis of CEO pay for The Associated Press, executive data firm Equilar reviewed the salaries, bonuses, perks, stock awards and other pay components of 341 top executives. The survey found that median CEO pay jumped nearly 13% last year, more than three times the 4.1% that wages and benefits netted by private-sector workers rose through 2023.

The AP's CEO compensation study included pay data for S&P 500 CEOs who have served at least two full consecutive fiscal years at their companies, which filed proxy statements between Jan. 1 and April 30. Beyond the widening gap in compensation between CEOs and their employees, the survey also spotlights persisting gender inequity — with women still making up a minuscule amount of those with chief executive titles compared to their male counterparts.

Isn't it time we fixed this?

I'll listen...what kind of ideas are out there to "fix this"?

It's unlikely that any ideas that I might present would interest you.  I follow the thinking of economists like Stiglitz and Reich.  Reich founded the Economic Policy Institute.

I'm interested in any ideas that make sense and are effective.   It's not my fault that many progressive ideas are neither.

Anyway, regarding this issue, the ideas presented in this article and in a Stiglitz interview I read,  address how to decrease CEO pay.  Putting aside how I feel about govt overreach and taxes assessed to discourage CEO excessive compensation, I don't see how any of them puts more money in the pockets of workers.

Progressive ideas make more sense than the trickle down failed thinking that republicans continue to prop up.

What ideas might come from a conservative perspective to address the income disparity?

Republicans for the most part don't think it's a problem.  So, I doubt they have many ideas to fix it.

You're the one who claims it's time to fix it.  I'm all for more income for workers.  How does the ideas of those folks you mentioned do that?
