QuoteThe abortion law builds on legislation passed in 2010 that represented a major shift for a traditionally Catholic country, transforming Spain into one of the most progressive countries in Europe on reproductive rights. Spain's constitutional court last week rejected a challenge by the right-wing Popular Party against allowing abortions in the first 14 weeks of pregnancy.
The debate will be heated in Spain, I imagine, as the conservative opposition pushes back. My daughter had horrible menstrual pain during her adolescence and young adulthood. I'm certain that she would have benefitted from that time.

No question. It would be nice if we had a congress that was willing to do anything beyond photo ops, fund raising and campaigning on the issue. More funds and more personnel would go a long way to improving the situation.
We've seen Republicans starve government agencies of funds, overwhelm them with tedious and dysfunctional expectations, and then loudly complain about the performance. It's an old political play... different directors, actors and writers but an old tale. Current Republicans are busy attacking some of our critical institutions. They are sowing doubt and among their cult like voting base to serve Trump's political agenda.

QuoteThe government rarely charges someone for false statements on gun purchase forms unless the accused is also charged with a violent crime, according to a Government Accountability Office report, opens new tabcited by Hunter Biden's legal team. More than 80 million American adults own a firearm, but only about 1,000 a year are investigated for false statements on a gun purchase form, and even fewer are charged, according to the GAO.
Is this a tit for tat witch hunt going after Hunter Biden? (Sarcasm) Never the less, they have enough evidence to bring the charges to trial. This ahead of his other trial in September in California.
Fun times.
This happened on Friday in a small community high school graduation. That dad really let his feelings be the spotlight of his daughter's graduation. What a guy.
I guess he said it was because of how the superintendent handled his daughter's bullying by other students. So he bullied the super a bit on stage. I wonder if he'll later feel like his freedom of speech was limited. His feelings seem to be really important to him, so maybe.
Edited to add another citation because we talked about this community during Trump's presidency.

Yeah. A ridiculous claim that kids were giving a nazi salute. I mean with soooooo much racism you couldn't find anything more substantial? If you see a nazi salute you need to check your racism.

I saw it on social media he did it because the Superintendent is black and he's racist and didn't want him touching his daughter. I'm glad to hear there's a deeper story.
Perhaps he could have been a better man and confronted the situation elsewhere instead of making a spectacle of himself, setting a bad example and ruining his daughter's graduation. But I'm sure there is going to be praise for him standing up for his daughter.

Colorado GOP rebuked by Republicans, Democrats after calling for burning Pride flags
Thankfully there is pushback by both sides.

I'm not going to say they are actually doing a Nazi salute and meant it as such, and not "something else" because there are adults in the picture and they are smiling. But it is a Nazi salute, right arm raised with palm flat. It's not racism to see it. At the very least it's really poor taste and poor judgement on the adult's part.

Burning of someone else's Pride Flag is a hate crime in my opinion.
I spoke last year about how in recent years Pride has felt different to me the past few years. That is seemed like we were on the verge of co-existing and the pushback was minimal like it always has been. I'm not the only one:
QuoteThe recent incidents are the culmination of growing hostility over the last few years, during which hundreds of anti-LGBTQ bills have been introduced by state lawmakers and many seem emboldened by the charged rhetoric now commonplace on social media. In 2021, authorities arrested a Long Island man who they said threatened to attack New York City's annual Pride march with "firepower" that would "make the 2016 Orlando Pulse Nightclub shooting look like a cakewalk.” And in 2022, police arrested 31 people affiliated with the white nationalist group Patriot Front for suspicion of rioting at a Pride event in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Last year, there were at least 145 incidents of harassment, vandalism and assault directed at LGBTQ people and events across the country during Pride Month, according to the LGBTQ media advocacy group GLAAD.
While pushback against Pride Month is not necessarily a new phenomenon, some LGBTQ people say this year still feels "different.”

The right wing media is incredibly agitating their audience over suicidal issues and political lies while seeing the belief that violence is a necessary outcome of their grievances. We should expect things to get sketchy as we get closer to the election.
I saw a couple of social media posts on Threads about support of Dolly Parton and wondered what the fuss was.
Dolly Parton has long been a gay Icon, especially among drag queens doing impersonations of her and she's somehow managed that while professing her Christian faith. Her record "Coat of Many Colors" speaking about being bullied touched many queer people.
Quote"Parton's version of love, which includes condoning immoral sexual behavior, (be who you are she said), is unaligned with God's vision for humanity,” the author wrote, going on to compare Parton to a secular leader spreading "false gospel.”
