QuoteThe abortion law builds on legislation passed in 2010 that represented a major shift for a traditionally Catholic country, transforming Spain into one of the most progressive countries in Europe on reproductive rights. Spain's constitutional court last week rejected a challenge by the right-wing Popular Party against allowing abortions in the first 14 weeks of pregnancy.
The debate will be heated in Spain, I imagine, as the conservative opposition pushes back. My daughter had horrible menstrual pain during her adolescence and young adulthood. I'm certain that she would have benefitted from that time.
Trigger warning.
Step aside, I'm gay and it's June. You know what that means. Stop what you're doing and wish me Happy Pride. Equality, diversity, fairness and inclusion is a strength.
Since coming out at age 17 (I'm not 65) I've seen so much progress over the years that I've never thought I would live to see. I feel it's only made us a better stronger society. Here's hoping, we don't go backwards.

Thank you for bringing this to our conversation.
I have a transgender grandson. I couldn't love him more. His transition is our transition. Sometimes I feel stupid as I shed 18 years of gender and naming habits. But it's OK for me to feel dumb and careless because it's not OK for him to feel unaccepted or unloved. He's patient and forgiving.
Your courage is part of the reason that he can see to his own happiness and success in our country today. Each member of the LGBTQ community has played a part in paving this pathway to community support rather than community judgment.
Happy Pride Month my AN friend. You deserve to celebrate!

I'm bummed I'm working Pride this year. Little St. Pete has one of the largest Pride celebrations in Florida and indeed the South.
I've said it before that family support of a transgendered person is literally a matter of life and death for young people. I've found that if you make the effort to use their chose genders with acceptance, even when you mess up they are understanding.
In other news a transgendered actress wins "Best Actress" at the Cannes Film Festival and naturally got some comments like.
"“It is therefore a man who receives the prize for... female interpretation at Cannes. Progress for the left is the erasure of women and mothers.”

The hateful and intolerant message of the right wing of American politics is, in my view, hateful and intolerant of the spectrum of humanity. They want their society to reflect a narrow band of what God created. As if the messaging wasn't bad enough, their policy is often cruel or indifferent to human suffering when people are marginalized.
Allowing all members of our society to celebrate their lives is healthy. Investing in the health and general welfare of all citizens is healthy.
Reported by the NY Post, so probably no reason to be concerned.
"The number of Turkish migrants crossing the southern border illegally has skyrocketed under the Biden administration, invited by smugglers who sell and organize crossings on social media boasting about how easy it is, The Post can reveal.
There were roughly 1,400 Turkish migrants encountered by border agents along the US-Mexico border in fiscal year 2021, which exploded to more than 15,000 each in fiscal years 2022 and 2023, according to federal data."

I don't believe anyone here is triggered.
Never the less, Happy Pride month!

I'm confident that the regular posters here aren't. But not all the viewers of this thread post. It has over 3,000 views.
QuoteTarget has pulled some of its products celebrating Pride Month and the LGBTQ community in response to threats and "confrontational behavior" at certain stores.
In recent days, social media has buzzed with conservative backlash to Pride merchandise at Target. One video showed a man taking down and stomping on a rainbow #takepride cardboard store display. Others showed people confronting store employees about the Pride sections or products.

This article was interesting. A couple of things stood out to me. Their first citation about Turkish immigrants at our border linked back to a NY Post article about Turkish immigrants trying to get out of Turkey. The second reference had no citation. Much of the writing seemed focused upon the tactics of the smugglers and traffickers.
QuoteA Turkish migrant who crossed into the San Diego border region recently told Fox News he's concerned about the migrants who are coming across himself, and expressed fears bad people will be seizing on lax border control.
"Who comes into this country? They don't know. OK, I'm good, but how if they're not good? How if they're killers, psychopath, else? No guarantee of that. Like, no security check, no background check,” the migrant said.
One border agent working in the region echoed the migrant's concerns, telling The Post the reality is that the migrants aren't being properly vetted even when they are taken into custody and questioned.
“[It's] not [going] well. I wouldn't say there's good vetting going on,” the agent admitted.
I wonder though, why are those people fleeing the right wing authoritarian government of Erdoğan? Aren't they trying to get into lots of countries, not just ours? Is their exodus evidence that it's not that much fun to live under the thumb of a right wing authoritarian? I think so.
Trump thinks Erdoğan is a great guy and good leader and invited him to the White House. Honestly, isn't it a possibility that if bad Turks are making their way across our southern border to cause trouble, that maybe they are being sent here by a right wing authoritarian to create chaos for his good friend to blame on the current president? Is that a possibility? Why else would you imagine that Turkush terrorists would come here just now? Speculation is encouraged, right?

QuoteThe statistics reveal that a cumulative total of 32,203 Turkish citizens entered the US illegally via land borders to seek asylum between fiscal years 2021 and 2023, with 1,373 people arriving in 2021, 15,360 in 2022 and 15,470 in 2023.
I can't vouch for the source, but it seems stable from 2022 to 2023 so why NY Post is sensationalizing it now is probably because it's an election year and they don't like Biden. But there did seem to be a big jump from 2021 to 2022. Guess it's a sign of the times that social media influencers are telling them what to do.
The Turks who generally have a good standard of living have long preferred Germany as a destination to migrate to. They have seen some of the worst inflation in the world, so that might have eroded some of their standard of living though.
QuoteSince a failed coup in 2016 that led to a widespread crackdown on dissent by the Turkish government, the number of Turkish nationals seeking asylum in Germany and other Western European countries has seen a significant increase.

Sensationalizing was a good choice of words, in my view.

It did not happen as the crazies believed it happened. Are you wanting to believe the NPS ranger asked the crew to remove the flag? They did not. The NPS relayed tourist complaints about the crew driving through the park to the construction site with flags unfurled and loudly flapping. It was a noise complaint to the group managing the project. They talked to the construction crew. So you are the right wing spin yet?
The NPS didn't demand any flag removal from any party. The targeted ranger didn't demand any action relative to a flag. It was a tiny fragment of a story spun into a trigger for a right wing audience. It worked. Can you see the spin?
The crazy story in the Watchman didn't pass the sniff test and it still doesn't.
