This was interesting in the news today...

The abortion law builds on legislation passed in 2010 that represented a major shift for a traditionally Catholic country, transforming Spain into one of the most progressive countries in Europe on reproductive rights. Spain's constitutional court last week rejected a challenge by the right-wing Popular Party against allowing abortions in the first 14 weeks of pregnancy.

The debate will be heated in Spain, I imagine, as the conservative opposition pushes back. My daughter had horrible menstrual pain during her adolescence and young adulthood.  I'm certain that she would have benefitted from that time.

According to the CDC website, they are monitoring birds, cows, and other mammals, plus cases in humans. They offer guidance on how to prevent spread. But I see nothing about using horse dewormer, or lupus medication as a treatment.

Some think our government right now isn't doing enough.

It's interesting that the public wants the government to tell them what to do about diseases and pandemics, and when they do..."we're not doing that and the government lies and is corrupt and a nanny state"..

They are working on a vaccine.  Wonder if they'll be any push back on injecting animals with a vaccine that is part of our food supply?

Trump affects the global market over tarrifs.  I think the tarrifs are a bit harsh on Mexico and Canada but he says it's to punish them over immigration and drug trafficking.

Meanwhile the US market reacts well to lower interest rates and apparently Wall Street likes his choice for Treasury Secretary hedge fund manager, pro-tarrif Scott Bessent.  He's a former Democrat and a gay man (as a side note).  Musk gave a tepid "business as usual" response to the pick.

I wrote this in 2016 and I think it still holds true for the next Trump administration (note the reference to vermin)

                                             "                     Reich Whisperers

Joseph Goebbels to Stephanie Grisham – "If you repeat a lie often enough, and even you will come to believe it.”

Rudolph Hess to Ivanka Trump – "How often has Hitler said to me:  I know that my decision or action is correct.  I cannot explain at the moment why, but I feel that it is right and the future will prove it.”

Heinrich Himmler to Stephen Miller – (during a speech to SS guards)…..”I myself hate this bloody business and I have been moved to the depths of my soul.  But I am obeying the highest law by doing my duty.  Man must defend himself against bedbugs and rats...against vermin.

Martin Bormann to Betsy Devos – "Education is a danger...At best an education which produces useful coolies for us is admissible.  Every education is a future enemy.”

Bernhard Rust (Minister of Education and Science) to Pastor Paula – "Since Martin Luther closed his eyes, nu such son of our people has appeared again...I think the time is past when one may not say the names of Hitler and Luther in the same breath.....”

Hermann Goring  to Trump – "My measures will not be crippled by any bureaucracy.  Here I don't have to worry about justice; my mission is only to destroy and to exterminate; nothing more.’

OMG. Trump really is a Nazi! Thank you so much for posting this. The words of some people made me see the light.

and you get the predicted sarcasm without discussion.

I think at the time and now there were some good articles and points to make, although some may be cherry picked comments without context.   But one has to admit some of the comparisons are a bit on point.

We'll just have to see how it plays out in the real world.  He's already said he's going to declare a state of emergency at the border to use the military for deportation.  He's hinted that to bypass tariff laws he's going to declare an emergency there.  He's going to undo all the executive orders put forth by Biden.   Good times ahead.

Moving on.  Really, if I respond to another post about H and NZ slap my hands.

Trump's tax cuts will surely be extended.  Maybe the increase in revenue from tariffs will pay for cuts?  I'm sure Elon and Vivek will find a way since we have a spending problem, not a revenue problem.

But these cuts are costly. Estimates have found that extending the 2017 law would increase the national debt by more than $4 trillion over the next 10 years. And so far, it's unclear how Trump and Republicans plan to pay for the extension of the tax cuts.

Mexico responds.

President Claudia Sheinbaum suggested Tuesday that Mexico could retaliate with tariffs of its own, after U.S. President-elect Donald Trump threatened to impose 25% import duties on Mexican goods if the country doesn't stop the flow of drugs and migrants across the border.

Sheinbaum said she was willing to engage in talks on the issues, but said drugs were a U.S. problem.

"One tariff would be followed by another in response, and so on until we put at risk common businesses,” Sheinbaum said, referring to U.S. automakers that have plants on both sides of the border.

Canada is being a bit more subdued at the moment.

Mexico and Canada need to go on social media and tell Trump  how clever and pretty he is.
Maybe write him a love letter and throw a parade.

Wow

"The poll, released by Puck News/Echelon Insights, found that 41 percent of likely Democratic voters would vote for Harris to be atop the Democratic ticket in 2028. California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) placed second at 8 percent, and Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D), who was in the running to be Harris's vice president this cycle, garnered 7 percent. "

My apologies. I should have added that none in which the member posted happened after 2016. And it will not in the next 4 yrs.

Seeing what happens is a positive outlook for the pending "fascist regime" that was supposed to happen in 2016.

Or Canada and Mexico can secure their borders.

I was born in Canada and immigrated to the US as a young child. My parents moved back 10 yrs ago. With some questionable actions of the Trudeau government, many Canadians fear that Canada is being exploited by foreign terrorist to enter the US through Canada. A person with no or fake identification can claim refugee status and be let into Canada. With a "hope you appear" notice which often doesn't happen.

As for Trump with his tariff threats. This is like a buisnesses deal. You always start high then negotiate the actual number. Canada is a major natural gas country.  Trump isn't likely to impose tarrif that high. Canada can also impose tariffs on US trade. Same with Mexico.

However a compliment campaign on social media couldn't hurt.
