Sooo I was sitting in class & I started to ease drop on the conversation behind me. The 2 girls were talking about salary & the one girl started going on about how she knows several LPN's that make in the upwards of 20k a year in overtime! I was in about shock then she started to talk about how they were only really working 4-5 days a week....from what I gathered most of them worked baylor shifts then picked up shiftts durning the week.

Is this possible! I know I wanted to "butt in" but I thought it would of been rude on the account I was ease dropping:lol2: Have any of you made this type of money in overtime?

I am a R.N. and last year I made 26000$ in overtime this year. I didnt work consistently every week overtime. Some weeks I worked my normal 36 hours and other weeks I might have worked 60 hours. 20000$ in overtime isnt that hard to accomplish. My base rate of pay is 34$/hr so you figure anything over 40 hours/week is paid at 51$/hr. I also get nightshift diff of 3.50$ and weekend diff of 2.50$/hr and that is also paid at 1.5 times during overtime. My s/o works as a ship pilot/captain and he is at sea every other month so every other month I work 48 hours/week and when he's here I work my normal 36 hours/week.

I'm an LPN with eleven years experience. I work three twelve hour shifts a week and anything over that is time and a half. So yes, I make a pretty decent living on overtime.

Im an LPN and I made around 10k in overtime this past year working an average of one extra shift a week. My normal schedule is 4 12 hr shifts. So Im assuming if I had worked an additional day to make it 5 days a week it would have been more around 20k in overtime. I cant do it this year tho, Im going back for my RN so Ill be doing well to work 36 hrs a week.

I am an LVN who works the Baylor Plan, which is 16-hour double shifts on Saturday and Sunday with five days off in a row. I am paid for a 40 hour work week just for working Saturday and Sunday. Frequently, I work extra shifts during the week for time and a half.

I've earned about $15,000 this year in overtime above and beyond my yearly base pay.

I know of an LPN who works five 12-hour shifts a week and makes a killer salary. Of course she's killing herself, and it doesn't take long for her to get to $20,000 over. Another good friend works four 12-hour shifts a week.

It just depends on, how hard the person wants to work, and is the overtime available where they work.

yes, it's possible. but, to do it, they are working 12 hour days on the weekends plus more than another 16 hours during the week (that's 2 eight hours shifts) in order to start getting overtime. if the facility only does 12 hour shifts, strictly, then they get into overtime on their 4th day's work since they will have worked a total of 48 actual hours. if they can tolerate working a 5th twelve hour day, the overtime really starts to rack up. adding overtime, shift differentials and the bonus they get for working the baylor weekend plan, that $20,000 adds up quickly. when i was a manager in a hospital that did this plan, we had several nurses that did this. you have to be able to sleep during your time off work and have pretty much no other personal priorities. because i had to check time cards before they went in to payroll, i saw exactly how much these nurses were working and how much they made. we kept very close tabs on the people who did this. if their performance looked like it was failing, or there were reports of them being fatigued, they were stopped from doing this. we had one lpn who worked without a day off for 4 weeks straight before we stopped him from doing that. it also turned out that he was stealing narcotics left and right as well as sleeping on the job whenever he could. we would get reports that he would go to answer a call light and not return for a half hour or more. it took some investigation, but we found he was sleeping.

It's also possible for an LPN to make $20,000 or more in overtime without weekends, and without 16 hour shifts. It depends on the the area and what it pays, and also what specialty

I've gotten roughly between 15,000-20,000 in overtime. That doesn' even include the money I made from PRN jobs. My townhome is paid for and so are bth mine and hubby's vehicles. I do it strictly for that. The town home we paid off in 8 years and the cars in half the contract time. I worked either Baylor or 3 12 hr shifts a week. God I miss it.
