I saw a weird combination of objects at work last night, and it made me wonder. What are some of the oddest combinations of objects you've seen that could really only happen in a healthcare setting?

Mine was a book of Rodin sculptures propped up on a bedside commode. :wacky:

Toothpick poking through abdomen... after having been accidentally swallowed. Um ouch?! (How one accidentally swallows a toothpick is beyond me!)

Oh yeah, and there's the tale of three kittens and a mama cat stashed in the closet of my asthma patient's hospital room. The family had snuck them in to visit and apparently hidden them in the closet as I was making my rounds. Of course, cats do not like being shut up in a cramped space unless it's their idea, and no sooner had I walked into the room to give my patient her nebulizer treatment than they came tumbling out. One kitten escaped and another one scrambled up my leg as I was trying to catch its sibling; luckily one of my co-workers intercepted it and we got them all contained quickly.

I swear, this was one of those things that could only happen to me. I was very direct with that patient's family and made them pack up the kitties to take them home. But it also struck me funny, and we all wound up having a good laugh over it. :)

A set of upper dentures found in lady parts of little old lady with dementia....question of the day is....now what do you do the teeth???

In my former life, I was a rad tech and did a KUB on an elderly lady complaining of low abdominal pain. She was A&Ox3 with periods of confusion. Once i developed the film, I found out why. She had tucked her dentures up in her lady parts for safe keeping. I asked her if she realized they were there and she said "oh yeah, I was wondering where they got to My roommate is a sneak thief. She'll steal anything. This was the only safe place"!

I've also seen a fish hook in a member.

Nothing like being asked to lavage an ear to see if I can get the cockroach to come out… and having the nurse next to me literally scream. lol.

A friend of mine who works in the ER had a patient with a garden snake in his member. It got there about how you'd imagine.

When I was in nursing school, we had a rotation at a VA nursing home. There was a man there who uh...had a solo sexual hobby...and he always carried the results of that hobby around in a baggie.

Not in a healthcare setting, but in my own home. My MIL with dementia lived with us for four years. One day, I was searching for the source of a smell in her room. There was a Dixie cup with one of her broaches laid on top of it. I decided to take the broach for safe keeping. As I lifted it, I found it stuck on a glob of balled up poop.

Source found.
