Nurses Relations

Published

Please don't label this thread "negative". It is meant to be fun.

Your scrubs are ugly.

I don't think you are "cute" when you get all googley-eyed and giggly around the young docs. I think it makes nurses look bad.

I cannot BELIEVE you were nominated for A Daisy Award! Did you nominate yourself?

It's called deodorant, use it.

Do your own assessment and stop badgering me for every single detail during report.

I swear I am going to put Ex Lax all over my lunch so the next time someone calls out for the runs, I will know it is you who keeps stealing my food!

Yes, my stethoscope is nice and it was expensive. Buy your own.

No time to help me turn my patient, huh? Yet, every time you need help, I have been there for you.

Your situational awareness sucks. While you are browsing the latest deals on the internet, I am drowning. Look around and help out your coworkers.

I'm happy you look rested and ready for your shift. Next time get here 15 minutes earlier so I can leave on time and be rested and ready for you.

No, you don't ALWAYS get the crappy assignment. I don't think you'd be happy with ANY assignment.

If you're sooooo sick of this place- leave.

Ok, here is my vent...

"The patient's potassium was critically low at 2.5 two hours into your shift, on replacement protocol, and you didn't have "time" to call the doc or replace them???" (because you were sleeping at the nurses station~seriously) Thanks for saving it for me!

Change of shift report - "patient is AO x 4 and ambulates independently without assistive device" Assessment reveals - patient has bilateral BKA's, confused and chewing through his/her IV tubing. Nice!

"You just got 15 verbal orders from Dr. XYZ and you don't want to put them in the computer because there's too many? Can I do it for you?" Ummm...yeah, NO!

I am all about team work and helping out your fellow nurse but there is a difference between actually NEEDING help because you are swamped or have a heavy assignment vs just being down right lazy and patient care is interfering with you looking for a new sofa on CraigsList. Ugh!

A bit from the other side:

Thanks for taking me under your wing. Let me rephrase that, thanks for taking all new staff under your wing. I've only been on the floor for less than two months but you are by far my favourite person/nurse.

You are kind, thoughtful, willing to share your knowledge, always asking others if they need help, asking me how I am doing, coming in and leaving with a big smile and laugh no matter what kind of day it was, never participating in gossip and even if you do you always say something positive for each negative to be fair. I'm not scared about approaching you with anything question or help - in fact I seek you out first.

Because of your kindess, I always try to find ways to make your day a bit easier. Answering you call light even when you are surfing the net or chatting with a friend, changing your patients, giving PRN meds, asking YOU if you need help.

It's true what our mama's have been saying right, you DO attract more nurses with honey than with a cold shoulder!

You are a wonderful nurse and more than that a great human being. Please don't ever change.

Look, if you can't take delegation from an RN go back to school, I don't know what to tell you. How is me making patient care requests to you any different than a doctor writing orders for me to carry out? Yes, he could do it himself, and in fact no one would fuss if he did do it himself; however it's NOT HIS JOB. Hey, if I write "CHECK FINGER STICK GLUCOSE AC/HS 7:30/11:30/19:30 AND REPORT THE RESULTS TO ME," slap a patient's sticker on it and have the charge nurse hand it to you, would you roll your eyes and huff any less? It's not like I'm asking you to do something while I plant my butt at the nurse's station for two hours or something. I'M DOING SOMETHING ELSE THAT YOU AREN'T AUTHORIZED TO DO AND HAVEN'T FIGURED OUT HOW TO DO EVERYTHING YET.

Thanks I feel better.

This post was meant to be a vent... It's not mean or hateful and if it happens to raise awareness of people who are like this then good. Some things you can't say directly to someone's face but you just need to say it. It sounds like the op is just fed up with people who always complain and take advantage. I've worked with a few of them and maybe I'm even guilty of some of the things that were mentioned. I think we all could do things to improve our practice and be kinder to our coworkers. If this helps the op keep from having animosity or causing an issue at work I say it's great. At any rate, who are you to judge?

Well said!!!.....there are times i want to say these things to a co-worker, but i have to remember that professional code of conduct.... on the other hand i don't want to be label as the mean nurse. The reality is there are some nurses that take advantage of their co-workers, always want help but never have the time to offer any etc.. Thank god for Allnurses, because sometimes we just simply need to vent its therapeutic...the nurses that have a problem with this are perhaps the advantage takers.

I am tired of aide/ LVN telling me that i think i am all that because i am an RN, whenever, i make an assignment or ask about a patient's status........the truth if you have a problem with your role so much , why don't you go back to school?.....The RN title wasn't created for me only......it's there for anyone who wants it....if you think our jobs as RN or so easy and we act as if we are all that......go back to school dear......i say this time and time again, that i am all for continuing education......if you are not comfortable in your role instead of coming to work being bitter and making my life along with my colleagues life miserable, go back to school dear, just go back to school......Its there for everyone!!!

I couldn't agree with you more, Chubby. Many aides seem to want the Charge role without actually knowing what that entails. It's enough to drive you crazy. Not to mention, the attitude is very disrespectful.

To the triage RN: please do not stand around for 10-15 minutes around my station, multiple times a day, and flirt with the MD or chat with the secretary about "Dancing with the Stars" and "American Idol". It's gotten to the point that the MD has told me himself he's never seen anyone so nutty over TV shows in his life (he's 64). You're supposed to be triaging pts, not the MD!

Also, when the MD takes us out to lunch for RN Week, don't talk so much about yourself (and the aforementioned TV shows) that I (and everyone else) can barely get a word in.

To an IM MD (not mine): Do not throw temper tantrums because you're having a bad day (usually every day). You're 44 years old but my 4 year old niece has better self-control than you do.

Your behavior has gotten so bad that several float pool staff members (RNs, LPNs, CMAs) have requested that they not be placed with you, such is your temper. You were so awful last week you made an agency nurse cry (not the first time I've seen this happen). The only difference between you and a school yard bully is your white coat.

LOL. I'm in love with her attitude. I'm a new grad and considering how much 'eating young' threads there are here - I wanted to express my gratitude to the good ones!

Don't sign up for the overtime and then expect to be treated like royalty and by sitting on your orifice the whole night. Don't take the overtime and then complain about it. Take it and shut it...:smokin:

You're collecting your pension. Quit picking up shifts "to get out of the house". If you want to work do so, but don't keep expecting me to pick up the difficult patients while you chat with the easy ones and tell everyone about your last trip to the tropics, how wonderful your grandchildren are, and how you come to work because you enjoy it so much.

I'd enjoy working if like you I only did the easy patients, no meds, and spent 40 minutes doing something that takes everyone else 5 minutes. Oh, and working Monday to Friday dayshift? I'd love to but it's called staff nurses don't have that luxury.
