They taped the what to the WHAT!

Previous shift CNA taped the condom cath to the head of the member.

Next time she does it I am going to call HER in at 3am to gingerly removed it with adhesive remover!!

Bah!

I didn't think they used those anymore.

I've heard of them being tied on before. NOT a good thing.

I don't like condom caths because most of the people we use them on are the confused old men who just yank 5 of them off in a day

Before I was a nurse I was a personal support worker and did home care in the community. One pt wore a comdom cath at night and it wouldn't stay on. His wife fixed that....with double sided carpet tape. Unorthodox but it worked.

There are ways to tape it on but they require a little skill and finesse. The goal of course is to not harm the skin and make it so the nurse can take it off, not the patient, and without removing skin, hair, or taking an hour.

And for the love of all that is holy, ya don't tape it to the head, and they do come in small. I use a size larger if I'm taping it, or use the correct size if I'm just using sticky skin prep. Oh yeah, and nursery pink tape works wonderfully.

you have to use the cardboard peter-meter to get correct sizing, not just guess!!

trying not to sound stupid here, but don't the condom caths come with tape in the package?

the ones my old home health agency carried did -- double-sided sticky tape. of course, when tape was needed, the aides taped them to the base of the member, not the head.

Why are men terrible carpenters....They always think six inches is a foot. :>>>>>>>>>>

I can say that from a guys stand point there are two things that should never be put near a mans groin: sharp things and tape

I almost died when I saw Peter-meter :yeah:

i've invented my own condom cath when applicable.

i take a biohazard bag, slit holes on top and thread cling guaze through.

i can then place member in bag, adjust to size of shaft and tie pretty bow.

bag stays on:

no messes;

and easy to remove.

it works...

perfectly.

Condom caths do slip all of the time, and this is a very well known fact. So please, do not assume that it was taped to the head of the member unless you specifically asked the CNA or whomever applied it.

Never assume anything or it can get you into trouble in nursing or any other field.

Chances are that it moved on its own and they are known for doing this, the same way that they come off as well.

I discussed it with the CNA in the morning, and she told me she had been mortified as well the other CNA showed up with the tape. From the amount of tape and position I am very confident I know exactly where it was originally taped. That and the fact that this was a quick fix, change of shift job.

I stand by opinion that tape and genitalia should not mix.

Slow down the serious train a little bit here and take this story for what it was, a 3am "oh are you serious!?" story.

ours always came with a strip of tape but it was applied to shaft close to body and not to head of member

we once had this old erratic man..he was close to 100 but he was well endowed, we were ordered to get a ua specimen that man fought like a tiger and we were able to find a tex cath to fit...this is the fun part..an orderly said he could talk to the old guy..he went in room and came out in a few minutes with a specimen bottle...i always suspected it was not the patients but what can you say

that "peter-meter" was a hoot. my learning for the day
