The Truth About Nursing

Published

I honestly believe that most people don't know what their getting themselves into when they try to pursue a career in nursing. Like seriously!

Today, I asked my closest friend why she wants to be a nurse (she's pre-nursing with me) and she said, "Because of the money, the hot male nurses, and because I like babies".

Lol, she also wants to get her CNA license next spring because she witnessed the birth of her neice and an actual CNA woman who helped "deliver the baby" told her she could be that in just 3 to 5 weeks. I really just wished that woman would've told her that she'll first probably end up working in a nursing home until then some. So now my friend is saving up to become one.

I'm not going to tell her the truth about nursing though, only because she's a grown woman and is capable of making her own decisions and learning about nursing on her own like I had to.

Although, I am secretly steering her to get her ADN first before she goes in debt trying to get her BSN, blindly.

You HAD to repost it, Jensmom? Hmmm?

I guess I know who's posting in the nightmare thread tomorrow.:o

Holy cow!

You gals and guys crack me up! Reasons for wanting to be a nurse. Another rant about hating people, oh my. Lions and tigers and bears oh my! I start school in August to become an RN. I know what it is about my baby girl is an RN, she lived with me while attending school. We speak about her job in the Trauma Surg Icu. I was an aide years ago. I know what you all go through, I want to be apart of it! I said in another post I'm 49. I'm beyond EXCITED to get it on!!!!!

Jensmom equated those horrendous clowns to Trump--you are officially the coolest person on this thread.

Wow, is working in a nursing home still viewed as bottom of the barrel pick? Please DON'T apply to work in nursing homes. The elderly deserve caring nurses who truly want to be there.

Former LTC nurse and loved it

***Cost of living*** Different states pay different wages in a lot of fields.

I do think that NEW nursing students should work all shifts in a Nursing home for a good month, then 12-hour shifts at the hospital shadowing nurses to get the real of what Nursing entails.

OCRN, if that's not NETY, I don't know what is. *shivers*

It's actually NETO in Farawyn's case.

It's actually NETO in Farawyn's case.

Ouch! You going to let than one slide Farawyn??

Ok BSN's I have yet to start school, these threads have me peeing myself in laughter, oops..urinating to be exact. I was a CNA and a phlebotomist in another life time. I'm choosing an associates RN..$15 grand is a big difference in a loan. I'm 49 yrs old. I want to work in geriatrics...most nursing homes higher LPN's...I still want to be an RN...if a BS is needed in the future I will go for it. Some of the threads don't even sound like professionals!!!! bahahaha...YES I WILL BE A NURSE and a DARN GOOD ONE!

When I graduate in 4 yrs "thekid' I'm going directly to a nursing home! I want to work with geriatrics every single day of my upcoming career. I was a CNA in several nursing homes! MY PURE PASSION!

I agree with you. I met a guy who is about to enter his first year. He's doing it because you "*only* have to work three twelve hour shifts." He has no idea how long 12 hours can be lol.

Seriously, LOL "only three 12hr shifts"?! What a fool! He'll learn.. Muwahahahaha!
