I confess to back pedaling into Trump territory when I wanted to leave discussions about him in the garbage can. My thread on the read-only break room site has 9,600 replies so I thought I'd bring up a new one.
He's not going away.
Haberman's book is out based on interviews. I won't read it, but the excerpts are interesting. Especially what he says about McConnell, a description that's against the Terms of Service here, but I actually don't disagree with. LOL
Quote“At one point, Trump made a candid admission that was as jarring as it was ultimately unsurprising. ‘The question I get asked more than any other question: “If you had it to do again, would you have done it?”’Trump said of running for president. ‘The answer is, yeah, I think so. Because here’s the way I look at it. I have so many rich friends and nobody knows who they are.’ … Reflecting on the meaning of having been president of the United States, his first impulse was not to mention public service, or what he felt he’d accomplished, only that it appeared to be a vehicle for fame, and that many experiences were only worth having if someone else envied them.”

In last nights Town Hall with Laura Inghram Trump teases fight with McConnell in Fox News town hall: 'I don't know that I can work with him'. Hope McConnell can keep his plan to serve through 2026.
How ironic you post this on a day in which Biden defies the Supreme Court and cancels more student loan debt. Is he a dictator?

I replied to a specific post and asked that question to her as she posted the article that compared Trump to a dictator.
Most people, other than unconditional Trump-haters, wouldn't compare either Biden or Trump to a dictator.

Trump invites that sort of comparison. I think the Trump hate is conditional.

I agree. Most people who identify with one political party over their lifetime are very reluctant to cause a schism in that party. It's silly to call it "Trump hate", except in the case of Meghan McCain, and for very good reason. Lifetime Trump hate pass for Meghan.
QuoteA new survey found that a majority of Republicans say it is fine for former President Trump to be a dictator for the day if he wins the presidential election.
The survey from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and YouGov found that 74 percent of Republican voters said it would be a good idea if Trump follows through on his remarks in which he said he would be a dictator only on the first day of his second term. Twenty-six percent of Republicans say it would be a bad thing.
Well Trump himself said he would be a dictator but only for a day. But no, I don't think many people characterize Trump as a dictator. I think though him leading the distrust in democratic institutions such as the press ("fake news" anyone?), CDC, IRS, FBI, DOJ to name a few is concerning, but most of all not believing in Democracy by saying he won the election are signs of someone without the intellectual capacity to a President much less a dictator.
Some of you might know I'm turning 65 this May and that I often check on my retirement accounts. I checked yesterday morning and was pleased. I have two accounts one that I don't contribute to that crashed in December 2021 and I'm almost back to that amount. Another is a relatively new 401K that I started when we got bought out three years ago. It's doing well. Anyway, I guess I can thank Trump.
Quote"No. I think this. I think the economy is horrible, except the stock market is going up, and I think the stock market is going up because I'm leading Biden in all of the polls,” Trump said.
"I think there will be a crash if I don't win,” Trump added. "And I say that, and I do not want to be Herbert Hoover.”
"THIS IS THE TRUMP STOCK MARKET,” Trump wrote in an all-caps Truth Social post, "BECAUSE MY POLLS AGAINST BIDEN ARE SO GOOD THAT INVESTORS ARE PROJECTING THAT I WILL WIN, AND THAT WILL DRIVE THE MARKET UP.”

QuoteA bipartisan ethics committee in Wisconsin has recommended felony charges against one of former President Trump's political action committees and Republicans in the state for allegedly skirting campaign finance laws, the committee confirmed to Axios on Friday.
Why it matters: The criminal referrals could spell more legal trouble for Trump, who already faces 91 charges in four cases in other jurisdictions.
The big picture: Trump called to decertify Wisconsin's 2020 election results as part of his wider attempt at subverting the presidential election due to his unsubstantiated claims of election fraud.
One doesn't have to scratch the surface of Trump's political machine very deeply to discover unlawful or un-American ambitions concealed within. This is just another little bit of evidence pointing to Trump's corrupt intentions for our election processes.
Meanwhile, in Georgia we're supposed to believe that Trump's efforts to bastardize vote totals to elevate Trump are not as important as the sex life of the DA. That is their best defense so far.
With the border overcoming the economy as the #1 concern for Republicans their top candidate for President continues to stroke their fears with lies.
QuoteIllegal immigration. He claimed that immigrants were "coming in from jails and mental institutions,” adding: "They're emptying out their prisons.” This echoes his prior claims that countries around the world are "emptying out their prisons, insane asylums and mental institutions and sending their most heinous criminals to the United States.” Immigration experts told us there's simply no evidence for that. One expert said Trump's claim appeared to be "a total fabrication.”
Southern border. Apprehensions of those trying to cross the U.S. southern border illegally have gone up substantially under President Joe Biden. But Trump was again wrong to say, "I had the safest border in the history of our country. Recorded history, because I can't tell you about a thousand years ago, but recorded history of the border by far." After dropping in 2017, Trump's first year in office, apprehensions then rose. The total number of apprehensions was higher during Trump's presidency than either of President Barack Obama's four-year terms.

Propaganda works. Media will continue to mod to that right wing narrative on the regular. Some won't even bother to explore the reality that republicans are actively perpetuating a grievance at the border for political purposes.
Leticia James's office filled this today. It seems pretty straightforward.
