I confess to back pedaling into Trump territory when I wanted to leave discussions about him in the garbage can. My thread on the read-only break room site has 9,600 replies so I thought I'd bring up a new one.
He's not going away.
Haberman's book is out based on interviews. I won't read it, but the excerpts are interesting. Especially what he says about McConnell, a description that's against the Terms of Service here, but I actually don't disagree with. LOL
Quote“At one point, Trump made a candid admission that was as jarring as it was ultimately unsurprising. ‘The question I get asked more than any other question: “If you had it to do again, would you have done it?”’Trump said of running for president. ‘The answer is, yeah, I think so. Because here’s the way I look at it. I have so many rich friends and nobody knows who they are.’ … Reflecting on the meaning of having been president of the United States, his first impulse was not to mention public service, or what he felt he’d accomplished, only that it appeared to be a vehicle for fame, and that many experiences were only worth having if someone else envied them.”

This delusional thinking about Trump, who he is and what he represents, was projected early on in the Trump political experience. Those buying into the delusion that Trump represented an admirable example of a successful businessman or represented the values of conservative Christians were happy to accuse those who might question that discernment as "deranged". We've been trolled with that rhetoric in these threads. When "traditional conservatives" simply allowed republican rhetoric to be Trumpified the party was lost to Trump. He can now justify ANYTHING and ANY behavior because he has convinced so many people that he is a victim of a corrupt left wing deep state that controls our government. He will use that claimed victimhood to justify violence and attacks on our rule of law.
Quote"I just hope we get fair treatment,” Trump said at an Iowa rally Friday. "Because if we don't, our country's in big, big trouble. Does everybody understand what I'm saying?”
It's important note that when Trump says things like "I hope we get fair treatment" he really means he hopes that he gets what he wants. Just like with election results, he accepts them only if they are the outcome he wanted. That's the new Republican norm now. Elise Stefanik verbalized that same thinking today on Meet the Press.

You don't think I could come up with a cllip of Biden saying something equally stupid?
I would agree that it was a dumb thing to say and that he was talking about something he doesn't know about.
But, I'd simmer down on criticizing based his lack of knowledge of magnets. Would you be comfortable betting a paycheck that our current president knows if magnets work when wet?
And, for either one, does it matter?

Not only is the GOP going to go with the guy who muses about suspending the constitution and being a dictator they are going to produce articles of impeachment for the House to pass to give Trump campaign fodder. It's not important if there is evidence to support impeachment. It only matters if the Republican House will vote the impeachment through and if their constituents believe their unsupported website and claims.
So far, millions of Americans have proven to be fairly gullible, if you believe polling on what they think about things like election security or vaccine safety. This is the era of conmen, grifters and charlatans. There are some really corrupt opportunists taking advantage of people who want to believe in and be part of something big and important.
