I confess to back pedaling into Trump territory when I wanted to leave discussions about him in the garbage can. My thread on the read-only break room site has 9,600 replies so I thought I'd bring up a new one.
He's not going away.
Haberman's book is out based on interviews. I won't read it, but the excerpts are interesting. Especially what he says about McConnell, a description that's against the Terms of Service here, but I actually don't disagree with. LOL
Quote“At one point, Trump made a candid admission that was as jarring as it was ultimately unsurprising. ‘The question I get asked more than any other question: “If you had it to do again, would you have done it?”’Trump said of running for president. ‘The answer is, yeah, I think so. Because here’s the way I look at it. I have so many rich friends and nobody knows who they are.’ … Reflecting on the meaning of having been president of the United States, his first impulse was not to mention public service, or what he felt he’d accomplished, only that it appeared to be a vehicle for fame, and that many experiences were only worth having if someone else envied them.”

How long will low-income people who can't pay for rent, be unhoused, pending review? Seniors who depend on Meals on Wheels?
I don't have the answers as I havent yet dived very far into the topic.
What are the reasons given for the freeze and review?
What I do know is this is the umpteenth time that the sky is going to fall because of Trump. Yet, the sky hadn't fallen.

From Wikipedia:
The original purpose of HUD was to administer laws and regulations. Not to house people.
NGO's are fine . Let philanthropists finance them to their heart's content. If local voters want their taxes to go to them, fine. I'm not necessarily against some getting federal dollars. We know some NGO's are great. Some are garbage, badly run, and rely too much on federal dollars. Those are the ones freaking out, I'm sure.
I don't see how a federal review is a bad thing.

I don't see how the programs need to shut down so that billionaires can review them. Maybe cruel disregard for the consequences that vulnerable people will face is now just business as usual for republican voters. Is that it? The suffering of others is irrelevant because the important wealthy people are concerned that there might be fraud or waste in a program? The POTUS is a fraudster for pity sake but we're supposed to believe that people need to suffer because the fraudster is looking for fraud? That's a whole lot to swallow, in my view.
Let philanthropists finance the NGOs is a cute response when none of the billionaires wanting to trim expensive government services to "we the people" make the even the honorable mention list of wealthy philanthropists. What an odd coincidence, eh?

The sky is falling? I'm not certain who is telling you that.
Where would you normally look for information about what a president or members of his team are doing? Hopefully those sources will tell you that part of the pushback is that the Trump orders are remarkably short on detailed or thoughtful guidance. It's almost as if their purpose isn't really review but chaos, confusion, and anxiety instead.
Also, it's funny that republicans are worried about mismanaged NGOs when the new head of the DoD mismanaged an NGO himself.
This is an interesting development.
Quote"We have 30,000 beds in Guantanamo to detain the worst criminal aliens threatening the American people,” the president said.
The White House announced a short time later that Trump had signed a presidential memorandum on Guantanamo.
The move immediately doubles U.S. detention lockup capacities, Trump said at the signing ceremony, noting that Guantanamo, is "a tough place to get out of.”
In subsequent comments to reporters outside the White House, new Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said of expanded detention facilities that "we're building it out" and that the administration would seek funding via spending bills Congress is set to consider
We need to shut down programs that vulnerable Americans depend upon for fear of fraud while we "build out" an off shore detention facility for immigrants.
QuotePresident Donald Trump moved quickly to remake the Department of Homeland Security Tuesday, firing the heads of the Transportation Security Administration and Coast Guard before their terms are up and eliminated all the members of a key aviation security advisory group.
QuoteMembers of the Aviation Security Advisory Committee received a memo Tuesday saying that the department is eliminating the membership of all advisory committees as part of a "commitment to eliminating the misuse of resources and ensuring that DHS activities prioritize our national security.”
The aviation security committee, which was mandated by Congress after the 1988 PanAm 103 bombing over Lockerbie, Scotland, will technically continue to exist but it won't have any members to carry out the work of examining safety issues at airlines and airports. Before Tuesday, the group included representatives of all the key groups in the industry — including the airlines and major unions — as well as members of a group associated with the victims of the PanAm 103 bombing. The vast majority of the group's recommendations were adopted over the years.
It'll be fine. I'm sure it will be fine.
QuoteU.S. President Donald Trump's military deportation flight to Guatemala on Monday likely cost at least $4,675 per migrant, according to data provided by U.S. and Guatemalan officials.
That is more than five times the $853 cost of a one-way first class ticket on American Airlines from El Paso, Texas, the departure point for the flight, according to a review of publicly available airfares.
It is also significantly higher than the cost of a commercial charter flight by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Seems like Musk ought to be able to find some waste in Trump's government, doesn't it?

QuoteStaffing levels at the air traffic control tower at Ronald Reagan National Airport were "not normal for the time of day and volume of traffic,” according to a preliminary Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) safety report on the tragic Washington DC crash.
Trumps is a pathetic liar.
https://www.the-express.com/news/politics/162134/ronald-reagan-air-traffic-control
QuoteDonald Trump appeared to blame air traffic controllers for the devastating midair collision during his press conference.
The president turned the tragedy political, criticising Barack Obama's administration for the quality of those employed to guide planes in landing and taking off safely.
Trump said: "We did not know what led to this crash, but we have some very strong opinions and ideas, and I think we'll probably state those opinions now because, over the years, I've watched as things like this happen.
"We think we have some pretty good ideas, but we'll find out how this disaster occurred, and we'll ensure that nothing like this ever happens again.”
QuoteTrump then said he needed to make sure air traffic controllers were of "superior intelligence, claiming the Biden administration had "changed them back to lower than ever before.”
"We must have only the highest standards for those who work in our aviation system,” the president told a briefing.
Quote"I changed the Obama standards from very mediocre at best to extraordinary. You remember that. Only the highest aptitude.
"They have to be the highest intellect, and psychologically superior people were allowed to qualify for air traffic controllers. That was not so prior to getting there.”
This comes after Trump launched into a ferocious attack on Truth Social on Wednesday night.
He wrote: "The airplane was on a perfect and routine line of approach to the airport. The helicopter was going straight at the airplane for an extended period of time.
Tweety said:We're in a mass depotation ourselves and wonder why two countries won't take 1.5 million people? Seriously?
The mass deportation does not include legal immigrants and legal migrants. Trump isn't asking neighboring countries of Gaza to accept 1.5 million ILLEGAL immigrants. He's asking them to take in refugees.
It's interesting to note that you seems to understand that 1.5 million people is a large number to enter any country. So I would assume at least double that amount allowed into the US is also as outrageous? Seriously?
