The all purpose herring: Instead of discussing the topic at hand, the poster makes snarky remarks about one of the other posters without really addressing the topic. There are degrees of snarkiness too, because not all subtle snarky remarks are deleted by the mods.

I think you are all being terrible, showing complete lack of compassion towards those poor victims. Nursing students are never at fault, and all your co workers have to continously update facebook and be late, they are blameless. i think you are all suffering from burnout and i for one am glad that when i become a nurse, i'm really only a pre-pre-nurse now but i watch grey's anatomy every week, i will be a special snowflake and always be full of sunshine and rainbows. bad nurses! bad nurses!

IDK if this is a red herring or not, but there are people who seem to have no reading comprehension skills who can't seem to read and understand a few simple paragraphs and then flame people on this site, getting their information all wrong. It is so annoying when they can't even get the details right.

I disagree with these statements, where is your compassion for those that feel like saying these things, a true compassionate nurse would not. And this doesn't always happen, just last week my sister's best friend had a discussion on here and no red herrings were used. I guess if you never have used a red herring yourself, you couldn't possibly understand the situation.

How about the Faux News style of question:

How do you feel about "xyz", given that completely false/urban myth says otherwise?

How about when someone asks a relatively benign question looking for opinions and inevitably someone responds as if it were directed personally at them because they have zero reading comprehension and everything is about them anyway isn't it? :icon_roll

anything less than agreeing with them, telling them they're being mistreated without cause because they're too pretty, and telling them they're simply fantastic nurses with awful preceptors is deemed "eating your young" around here.

it seems that most of the "nurses eat their young" posts are perpetuated by those who could benefit greatly from some self-examination and/or a reality check.
