This final decision ends constitutional protection for abortion, returning the rights to state legislatures.
QuoteIn a historic and far-reaching decision, the U.S. Supreme Court officially reversed Roe v. Wade on Friday, declaring that the constitutional right to abortion, upheld for nearly a half century, no longer exists.
Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade, ending right to abortion upheld for decades
Do you think the Supreme Court made the right decision or gone too far?

Thanks for helping me to learn something new, Tenebrae, even though it has just made me feel disgusted at what is happening in our country.
I agree; I feel this is something that a woman and her doctor should be able to decide between themselves, not the government. We need to vote in some people with sense enough to at least mitigate these crazy laws that are coming out. This so called "heartbeat" law is one of them. Most women haven't even missed a period by the time a rudimentary heartbeat is able to be heard at around 6 weeks. It is basically doing the same thing and forbidding abortion at all. The states that still have legal access to abortion are having problems from the states that don't allow it. Laws are being discussed that allow doctors in another state to be prosecuted for performing an abortion; another allows prosecution of a person who gives aid to a person seeking to travel to another state for an abortion. Birth control is being targeted as well; pills and IUD'S that work by preventing implantation of a fertilized egg are now being called abortion methods and made illegal. Morning after pills that have been marketed in the past as working in this way, even though it has been proven this is wrong, they do nothing of the kind, are being made illegal in many places. It is terrifying; what is next with these crazy politicians?? This started with the so called Christian right to life movement but has gone so much farther. These people haven't thought through the consequences of this law: more unwanted children who are in foster care because they aren't "perfect" enough for adoptive parents to want. More dead women because they were willing to risk death to obtain an abortion to prevent whatever would have happened if the pregnancy continued. Sometimes an abusive marriage that would have now had to continue because the abuser now had another possession to control her with as well as another possession to abuse. Sometimes a child with many genetic or physical malformations who is now being forced to continue through a pregnancy filled with pain only to die either at birth or within a few months of life, suffering the entire time. Sometimes, as with the recent case of a rape of a 10 year old, the person carrying the pregnancy is not mentally or physically mature enough to be able to carry to term; she is risking her very life to continue the pregnancy. So many other problems that are being caused by the unilateral illegality of abortion in so many places. Some have exceptions allowed for rape, ectopic pregnancy, risk of death to mother; but only a woman and her doctor know the conditions upon which an abortion would be the right thing to do for this woman. That's how it should be, not left for politicians and people who have no medical training and often are not willing to support the women and their children who have resulted from this denial of control over her body. She is told to "get a job and get off her lazy ***"; but who then will care for her 4 kids at home? It will cost more in childcare than she will be able to make in most unskilled labor jobs. Even jobs that are paid fairly well will not cover childcare for more than 1 child, so unless she has a family member or friend willing to babysit continually for little money, she has no choice but to stay home with them as if she leaves them with someone she CAN afford and something happens or she leaves them alone (if the oldest is over 8 or 10) and something happens, she will be liable for child neglect. It's a catch-22 for her. Welfare or aid to mothers with dependent children as it's called, is always being cut down from programs, is extremely hard to get (try begging and that doesn't always work either) and the amount is sometimes barely able to support food and living, much less buying clothes for the kids, haircuts when needed, doing laundry at a laundromat, etc. So people wonder why the children are ill dressed, shoes too small, well worn, etc. Do you think she WANTS to live like this?

A long time ago I read a book called The Baby Trap. It should be required reading in junior high school. So many women children are brainwashed into the myth that motherhood is the end all and be all.

It's simply a matter of law - or lack of law to be more accurate. There's no constitutional protection because it's simply not in the constitution regardless of how someone feels about it. With that there is still plenty of opportunity to have access to these options. It just won't be as convenient. But why should it have to be convenient? It may be a necessary procedure, but it should definitely not be looked at in the same category as typical birth control. Aside from the obvious rape situation there are many ways to avoid getting pregnant.
Well, this comment didn’t age well. The 10-year-old girl in Ohio who was RAPED by a family member (incest) was denied an abortion. She had to drive to another state (illegally) and get one in Indiana. That provider is now being investigated and possibly facing charges. My state is one of the first to ban them past 6 weeks, except in the case of rape or incest or if the mother’s life is in danger, but the rape/incest victim is required to file a police report in order to get one. Most people would do that anyway but some are scared to go to the police when they’ve been assaulted. The bigger picture with this being overturned is how far will this methodology reach. If this was overturned because it’s up to the states instead of the federal government, what other federal decisions will they overturn? Same-sex and interracial couples are now fearful for their marriages because those were allowed by the Supreme Court. Will birth control be banned because it prevents a fertilized egg from implanting?
I just read that a Republican legislator in West Virginia is advocating for a halt to child support enforcement. His argument: the threat of having to pay child support makes men pressure women into having abortions.
Google: “WV State Delegate Chris Pritt child support”. (Happens to be a divorce attorney.) There’s video of his speech.
I think my ambition and drive was similar to your until recent exposure to corrupt ness has me feeling like what seems so obvious is not the case. Many americans believe that we have born freedom that we as society given equal rights but don’t really grasp whose on the frontline and what we are giving up to secure these rights

Chris Pritt...yeah... there's even video of his stumbling argument although it's offered up by those who want to share their political commentary on the subject. I would say that the fellow seemed to struggle to make a cogent oral argument for his beliefs...I wonder how successful his law career was?

Glad there’s video … those sites really are pretty hair-on-fire slanted. Still … with states not only banning abortion but trying to criminalize travel out of state and going after out of state providers, I’d keep a water bottle handy.

Indeed. Those sites are outside of my preferred media consumption zone. They were, however, the only place that I could find record of Pritt's thinking and suggestions to relieve those men of the inspiration to encourage abortion.

Why? You can say that again. This is the question that many are not asking.
here’s the answer: because they can
