What are some of the things that come to your office that have NOTHING to do with the medical field? A common one at my school: "My pants are too big, do you have some string to tie them up?" LOL!!!!
Back when I was at the elementary level, my office ended up being the lost and found. The plus side of this was that periodically, I'd wash any clothing (often sweatshirts, jackets, sweaters...things the kids would take off and leave somewhere) and keep it for "emergencies."
The only thing I can complain about at the higher levels is some quasi-disciplinary stuff. My last school I was stuck being the "emergency" option for kids barred otherwise from having hall passes.
I repair eye glasses, clean dog poop off kids, shoes, footballs and anything else, I keep spare uniform pieces for the times that kids are out of uniform or have bathroom emergencies or spills, I hem or repair uniforms when there's a uniform rip or tear, I do shoe repair, I am the keeper of random items such as Febreeze, Static Guard, Qtips, nail polish remover, glass cleaner, needle and thread, and tons of non-nursey things I'm sure I'm not even thinking of. I kinda consider myself "school mom" as much as I am school nurse.
I am getting to the age where I can't even see the darn screws to fix the glasses :)
I have to put my reading glasses on. I'm pretty decent at it, but there have been some that I just can't get and pull out the medical tape instead because it always happens to the kid who cannot learn without their glasses.
This is one that I HATE. I am not good at repairing glasses, I can never get the screws in. I do have better tape for genuinely broken frames, though.
I gave up on those tiny little screws a couple of years ago. I can barely see them, and my not so skinny fingers make it extremely difficult to even get the thing in the proper place. I now use dental floss to repair them until they get home. It's strong, it threads right through, and it can be easily clipped with nail clippers when they can be properly repaired.
