The Not So "Nursey" Things...

What are some of the things that come to your office that have NOTHING to do with the medical field? A common one at my school: "My pants are too big, do you have some string to tie them up?" :sour::yawn: LOL!!!!

But I just now had a kid come wanting an ice pack because his headphones are were too tight on his ear. Another earlier today because the button on his adjustable waist pants was bothering him. Nothing I can do about that buddy...pull your pants up a little bit so it's on your squishy belly and not your hip bone.

quick fix for the pants thing - I use zip ties, just pull thru the belt loops and tighten. Cheap solution - I grab zip ties from our maintence guy when he is on campus.

Maybe I can't picture it right...How do they get their pants back down when they need to use the restroom? Or do you do many tip ties per day?

the pants are jeans with a zipper and button. Once they are zipped I just cinch the back or side belt loops together until the kid tells me they are tight enough then apply the zip tie. No need to reapply the zip ties.

Had a kid stuck in his coat today. Zipper malfunction. The teacher, myself and the secretary had no luck. Finally got the janitor with her pliers.

I also seem to get odd requests from HS art students - vasoline for doing face moldings, long qtips, cotton balls, alcohol pads, etc.

How does this work?

That's the method we used when I worked in-patient psych, since they couldn't have belts. Works like a charm! For the pants that don't have buttons/zippers, a hair tie around the cinched-up excess works.

Knots. I really don't get this one... Sure, with shoe or pants issues, I have the better tape and the safety pins and the replacement clothes if they need that. But knots? Didn't receive any special training on knots in nursing school...

I love that about the hair ties! I'm sure I'll be using that.

Pipe cleaners also work well if you don't have zip ties.

I have used a strip of rolled gauze to tie belt loops as well!
