Just a bit ago the top three threads involved:
1.I have a DWI. Can I be a nurse?
2.I am stupid. Can I be a nurse?
3.If it takes me five times to pass NCLEX, Can I be nurse.
Not much left to add. Says it all.
Can I flush a peripheral iv with 3ml ns without an order or should I call the neurosurgery attending at home to give me an order?
Of course you should call the neurosurgeon!! You are just a nurse, and if you flush with that normal saline before getting an order, you are practicing medicine without a license! You will loose your license!! And then you'll be out on the streets, probably drinking away your sorrows at a bar, where you will become an unwitting victim of fomite spreading nurses.
I never venture into the pre-nursing/nursing student forums; many of them don't want to hear some of the hard truths about nursing. I also stay away from those posts in the general nursing forum as well. I have been burned more than once. Generally, I only post on questions/vents from nurses that have some experience under their belts.I know, I know...I'm a snob.
I am a pre nursing student. Will know if I'm an official nursing student this week. I want honest advice. I don't want a pat on the back and an "It's okay. You'll do fine." So, to those of you who answer honestly, thank you.
I, on the other hand, am having to bite my tongue (or fingers in this case) not to answer these people the way I want to. It might be because I'm 42, but come on people, give me a break! No, you can't be a nurse if you can't add 2+2, or can't pass chemistry after 5 tries, or are too shy to talk to people, or can't go out in public in your fomite scrubs, or can't handle poop! And, now that I have had to read and imagine the stoma sex, I am ruined forever! Thanks for that one!
You're not a snob. I do the same.

The only thing better are these types of posts with a generic subject line "HELP PLEASE I NEED HELP PLEASE READ"....yes that makes me want to click on it and assist you with all your worldly troubles
Or the ones that go HHHHEEEELLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!Please read ASAP! And then ask a question about what study guide to buy, or which is the best kind of stethoscope. Because school is starting tomorrow and they're just now figuring things out.

And then if you take the bait (and the time) and decide to help the poor sap, s/he stops posting altogether. Your thoughtful response becomes the last one in the thread!

I always thought that if I drunk enough alcohol whilst wearing my scrubs, the fumes surrounding me would be enough to kill off any fomites. Am I the only one? :)
It helps to drink a sufficient quantity that you wind up spilling onto your scrubs.
