Just a bit ago the top three threads involved:
1.I have a DWI. Can I be a nurse?
2.I am stupid. Can I be a nurse?
3.If it takes me five times to pass NCLEX, Can I be nurse.
Not much left to add. Says it all.
Getting back to topic (there was one, right? LOL):
Taking the time to provide a thoughtful answer to the desperate questions posed in the pre-nursing student forum that need answers RIGHT NOW....and then having the OP disappear. No one responds. Poof. Guess it wasn't such a burning, lifelong dream after all, eh?

I never venture into the pre-nursing/nursing student forums; many of them don't want to hear some of the hard truths about nursing. I also stay away from those posts in the general nursing forum as well. I have been burned more than once. Generally, I only post on questions/vents from nurses that have some experience under their belts.
I know, I know...I'm a snob.
I am currently a student, and for me right now, school is basically my job. Im serious. My kids future is depending on me succeeding in this.
I can't tell you how much it floors me when I hear classmates say things like, "You only have to show up once a week to keep your financial aid."
"My teacher is such a witch. I know she said, on the first day of class, that she locks the door when class starts and if you are late, you get a zero for the day. Now she's failing me for no reason but that I was like, 30 minutes late like 5 times. Nobody passes that class."
"We have a test today? She never said that!" (it was on blackboard, it was on the syllabus, it was on the board the last day of class) "Im reporting her to the dean."
I laughed with you lol! Also, when I think of silk sheets, I think of animal print, mirrors on the ceiling and silk's propensity to slide you off the bed.
I imagined each patient room will be turned into a love cave with a Barry White soundtrack. Turning patients will be so effortless. So much so that they'll be turned onto on the floor.
Or just turned on.

There's still the Suzy Goodie Girl in me somewhere who wants to help those who want help, and asked. Sometimes the answer is encouraging, and sometimes the only encouragement I can offer is for them to change direction. The part that kills me is when I bother to give them the ONLY thoughtful answer, the ONLY one that answered their (sometimes stupid) question, and it gets zero response. Which makes me think "Why did you waste my time, and why did I let you??"

Well, you're on the right track. School is a job in itself, in that it demands attention, time, respect, and effort. No one owes you an education, you earn it. No one owes you a passing grade; that's your earn as well.
Your classmates, whose priority is reporting the instructor to the dean for his or her own failings, will not likely finish the program with you. And if by some miracle they do, the real world will bite them in the ass every time.
Hang in there :)
What about all the occupied-bed linen changes with silk sheets? One good tug and the little old ladies may go flying across the room...The hospitals should just supply silk scrubs... No more walking fomite issues.
Wrong thread? I can't keep track anymore...
Have seen this almost happen several times when staff are learning how to use a slide sheet!

Camo! Missed that opportunity. We can have the one you described as Med-Surg Medley! Perhaps another camo pattern of ICU Code Blue (with varying shades of cyanosis? )
