The Mockery of Nursing

Published

Just a bit ago the top three threads involved:

1.I have a DWI. Can I be a nurse?

2.I am stupid. Can I be a nurse?

3.If it takes me five times to pass NCLEX, Can I be nurse.

Not much left to add. Says it all.

Are we talking about violating a hippo again?

At the local community college nursing information session that I attended when I started nursing school, The facilitator asked if there were any questions, about 12 hands went up. She picked one guy who asked "I am a convicted felon can I be a nurse?" No word of a lie, 9 of the 12 hands went down.

I dunno Purple_Scrubs, but when we encountered crusty old bats up in the boat house in the north woods of WI, the boys would go in the boat house and wack 'em with tennis rackets as they flew around. Took care of 'em.

You forgot to add "Should I call the CEO and demand that the Manager be fired, or should I just report her to the BON?"

Specializes in Ortho Med\Surg.

My 13 year old, Twilight-obsessed daughter overheard me telling the boyfriend about "biter nurses" and had a fantastic idea!

This could be the basis for a new medical show -- Think cross between Nurse Jackie and TrueBlood :D

Okay, who's got suggestions for what to call it?

The thing is, I usually avoid posts from wannabes/pre-nursing/nursing students. It usually only ends in badness, particularly if you're answering someone whose dreeaammm is to be a nurse.

I'm not sure why I answered that post, but I can guarantee you it's a mistake I won't be repeating.

Well, at least you got an answer! I replied to several people who were looking for information, clarification, etc in the pre-nursing board, and found they never returned to read the advice. Or, if they did, they didn't take a fraction of the time it took me to GIVE them the information to say "thanks".

LOL, there's no thanks in nursing, sometimes not even from the students asking for help!

Reminds me of a fella who spent a (short) time in pre-requs in nursing school with me. Seems he had told his advisor that he had done some jail time (just a little, not a big deal--ha!) and wondered if it would affect whether he got a license. She told him he had to contact the BON, and if necessary, write letters, ask for letters of recommendation, whatever was required so he didn't waste time--his and theirs--if he couldn't sit for NCLEX. Fast-forward a year, and he was harping to anyone who would listen about how MEAN and UNFAIR it was that he wouldn't be able to get a license, because he just KNEW he could be a great nurse. So what was the problem? His "no big deal" was multiple convictions for drug dealing, theft of narcs, forgery, etc. And he never bothered to contact ANY of the people his advisor said he needed to, he just figured a simple letter of recommendation (from a FRIEND!) would suffice. And ohohOH....this is the best part: he told us during this rant that he really only wanted to become a nurse so he could GET TO THE DRUGS, lol....so he didn't really need to worry about being GOOD, just getting to graduation! rofl....he didn't get to his first clinicals.
