The Mockery of Nursing

Just a bit ago the top three threads involved:

1.I have a DWI. Can I be a nurse?

2.I am stupid. Can I be a nurse?

3.If it takes me five times to pass NCLEX, Can I be nurse.

Not much left to add. Says it all.

I remember my NM a coupla years ago telling me how frustrated she was because the last two or three PCTs they'd hired couldn't get through the drug testing. I'm thinkin' they know exactly why they're going to this 'special place' for their physical and they're told there's a drug test and they still can't pass it...how the heck did they convince our NM to HIRE them??

I'm guessing they're the same ones that know they'll need to drive a car and can't figure out that drinking before they drive that car could result in criminal charges. (Oops, I'm being mean. I should be more understanding. It's crazy how we treat criminals like criminals!)

I remember never again seeing at least 10 of the faces I remembered seeing in our orientation to nursing school. It was on this day we paid for and gave samples to RNs from the local hospital who came to do our drug testing. They had to have done all the prereqs and entrance examinations **** and didn't figure on the drug test I guess.

The employee health nurse who completed my last pre-employment drug screen and breathalyzer test commented, "You'd be surprised at the people who come in here, knowing they're going to be taking a test for employment, and STILL blow greater than .08 at 10 o'clock in the morning. Oh, wait, you're an ER nurse ... I guess you wouldn't be surprised ... "

Now dang it all! I knew I had things bass=askwards! See, I got bitten instead of doing the biting!

So, can I still be a crusty old bat (preferably seasoned with green chili thanksverymuch) if I have bite scars instead of fangs?

it depends. are you old? are you mean? do you not give a flying tofu about people's dreeeammms? do you lack compassion? do people regularly say, "i hope you never are my nurse!!"?

most importantly, do you post in comic sans? (i think that will be the thing that forever keeps me out of the society.)

being from new mexico, i am more the dream snatcher than a tofu monger.

so sorry wooh, comic sans is beyond my luddite capabilities!

i am old, and mean but only lean in my dreeeaamms, and wear my rusty iron pants with which i sit on all those beautiful young and svelte newbies rather than retiring and living in poverty so that they can advance the compassionate calling of nursing for free!

do you also throw up a little in your mouth when posters state they have failed their prereqs multiple times as well as taking the nclex 5 times (and haven't passed yet) and are encouraged to keep trying because you have endless chances?

i think esme was sick, not the thread. although hey, sure, this is sick. hope ya feel better, esme, and don't go to the hospital whatever you do. there's danger there.
