The Mockery of Nursing

Published

Just a bit ago the top three threads involved:

1.I have a DWI. Can I be a nurse?

2.I am stupid. Can I be a nurse?

3.If it takes me five times to pass NCLEX, Can I be nurse.

Not much left to add. Says it all.

I am a RN-BSN who believes the BSN should be the entry to practice because then we will be viewed as professionals. And we will receive pay closer to other batchelor-degreed health care workers like physical therapists or pharmacists.

I am also a RN-BSN who is appalled at the idea of taking a larger patient load and relinquishing routine or bedside tasks to LPNs. Y'know like physical therapists and pharmacists do all the time to PT aides and pharm techs.

I am a RN-BSN who believes the BSN should be the entry to practice because then we will be viewed as professionals.

*** What is your evidence for this assertion? I have worked in a hospital where all nurses had a BSN or MSN and didn't notice any difference in attitudes twords nurses there.

And we will receive pay closer to other batchelor-degreed health care workers like physical therapists or pharmacists.

*** Whewre is the money for this extra pay going to come from? Having BSN prepared RNs does not allow the hospital to bill more for our services. The BSNs do not bring in any more money to the hospitals so how are they going to pay use more? WHy would they?

BTW it has been a long time since one could be a physical therapist or pharmacist with a batchelors degree. Both of those are doctorate entry programs now. How do you expect that a nurse with a BSN will be viewed as requiring the same compensation as those with doctorate degrees?

I went to school for 6 years for my NP and do all the work of an MD. Why is it that I make less money than them? That is soooooo unfair.

PMFB-RN, Um, I think you're missing the point of this thread. I do stand corrected on physical therapist and pharmacist not being batchelor degrees though.

I was making fun of RN-BSNs who want more pay and prestige, but don't realize this will force hospitals to delegate more and more of their responsibilities to techs and/or LPNs.

Dont like it then get out and let us have our fun.

I couldn't agree more! As my Grandfather says, (he's 92 and can get by with saying just about whatever he wants) "Opinions are like a**holes, everybody's got one and others besides yours, and even yours on occassion, stinks!" I have an MSN in Rhetoric, and am fast tracking to my MSN/APN online at a very prestigious university because I really can't tolerate skin to skin or nose to poo contact.

But I need some advises pleasee...

Should I volunteer at the Library or the Sorrority? I would have to actually go to the campus, and it is like 12 blocks from here.

And, OMG- I have 83 thousand in student loans, what would happen if I just don't pay them? Or, what hospitals are hiring that will pay them off for me?

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this thread! I am slowly working my way through it so maybe this one has already been mentioned.

"I have like two degrees in other fields with vast real world banking experience and just completed a direct entry masters in nursing program and I can't get a job in (pick one NICU, PICU, L&D, ER, ICU, OR)!. Don't these people know there is a nursing shortage! I should be having my pick of nursing jobs cause of the shortage and my masters degree and my other degrees in accounting and finance and all. I was offered a job in LTC but, like no way am I going to change old mens diapers! I have a masters degree after all."

Or this one.

New grad with a MSN but zero patient care experience is hired into our hospitals new grad nurse residency program:

"Excuse me nurse manager but I wanted to talk to you about my preceptor. She great and really nice and all but she only has a diploma in nursing and despite her 30 years of ICU experience and her love of teaching I don't think it's appropiate that I, as direct entry masters grad, be taught by a nurse with only a diploma. Don't you have any MSN or DNP prepared staff nurses who could teach me instead?"

Or this one.

"I always wanted to be a nurse but there is no way I am going to work night shift or weekends. Can I get a great job in (pick one - NICU, L&D, ICU, ER, OR, PICU) making good pay but not have to ever work a night shift or weekend? I mean those other nurses who have been working night shift for ten years while waiting for a day job are already used to nights and I have 7 kids and nights just don't agree with me and I have kids stuff to do on weekends"

What do I need to get into school x? It's been two days and I haven't heard back about my application yet. Plz respond asap!

I failed all my tests in all my classes. Am I meant to be a nurse?

EVERYONE in my class is failing. Can I have the teacher executed, or should I just report her to the BON, BBB, college administrators, and the accrediting agency?

If I post a picture on Facebook where I am straddling my hot male patient, is that bad? My boss said it's some HIPPO violation or something.

I need advices. My pt had stats of 60, what does that mean? My teacher said pt education wasn't the first priority. I don't understand why.

All my teachers are mean. I actually have to READ the book! They tested me on something they didn't even discuss in lecture!

Or how about...

"I just turned 21, am I too old to go to nursing school? Because by the time I'm done with school I'll be in my mid-twenties and everyone knows that's too old to start a new career..."

The snarky part of me always wants to short answer "Yep".

I'm a pre-pre-nursing student who is going to get her BSN and then be a CRNA and basically be a doctor and make the big bucks. Without having to go to medical school. Go me!

I live in constant fear of "losing my license" if we run short staffed. This even though I've never heard of a nurse actually losing their license for any reason, ever.

Stealing narcs is about the only reason I've seen.

You people are mean. I so don't have the wittiness tonight.

Now, since I called you mean, I am going to have a drink. Thanks for the pick-me-up :yeah:, I've had a stupid day.:banghead:
