For me, the worst day as a school nurse is still better than an average day at the hospital. Sometimes I have to keep reminding myself of that, though!

YES! YES! YES! I have only stayed past my scheduled time about 2-3 times in 3 years of school nursing. In the hospital - I usually STARTED my charting 30 minutes after the end of my shift.

As a person that does school nursing and hospital nursing I would have to say most of the time!! I have good days at the hospital that make me extremely glad to be there and I have some bad days at the school that make me wish I wasn't there. Those days usually occur during lice season...

My clinic assistant is usually moody most times but today took the cake and I remind myself of the hospital scene also. She's worked in Spec. aide 6 years and worked in the clinic 2 years. She's still real close to the spec aide people. She easily get frustated with kids coming without passes and is a stickler, which has been an ongoing problem. The last staff mtg. we mentioned it to the teachers. Today 2 kids came in without a pass out of maybe 12 kids seen. She grabs her head and sighs. Looks at the kid (14yo) 2 min. shakes her head in disgust and finally gives them the ice or whatever it was. She then tells me she has emailed both principals. I ask is it all the teachers or just 1-2 teachers. It's 2 teachers. Why didn't she just deal with the 2 teachers. But since she's been with the district longer and has plenty spec. aid friends that hang around her desk in the clinic, she felt she could just take things into own hands. Every now and then she'll say out loud, I may go back to spec. aid. And I think, why don't you? So anyways, she gave me the silent treatment all day, she's done that before. so finally with 2 hours left in day, I go over to her desk and say, you're not talking today? She says, no, not really, it's frustrating that kids don't come with passes. And I say, well, the principals will be getting with you soon. I say, don't let that ruin your whole day. ( I felt like saying, you need to grow up). She sat at her desk writing emails, reading a book and waving at spec. aide students and friends as they walked past the clinic door, and said nothing to me unless it was necessary. When she got up to leave, I said, I hope you have a better day tomorrow.( I felt like saying, don't come to work with that crap tomorrow). I am 50, she's 48? I thought, yes in the hospital I remember dealing with a few difficult nurse aids who had attitude problems. Is it jealousy or fighting authority? Not sure. You hold on and I will too. Fighting good fight of faith and holding on. Sorry for long vent.
