The HRSA Nursing Scholarship

Updated:   Published

The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.

How to Apply for a Scholarship

If you're interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The HRSA Scholarship Program is designed to support students in various healthcare disciplines who are committed to serving underserved communities and helping to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in those areas.

HRSA offer scholarships to help pay for health professions' education.

All Scholarship awardees will provide a one-year service commitment for each year of scholarship support received.

The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.

Scholarship requirements:

To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:

  • Nursing (including RN, ADN, BSN, and graduate-level nursing programs)
  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Certified Nurse-Midwife

You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.

Have no federal judgment liens and service commitment.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for scholarship through the HRSA's online application system.

Scholarship award covers:

  • Tuition and Eligible Fees
  • A monthly stipend for living expenses
  • An annual other reasonable costs payment

If you have any questions about the program or the application process, the HRSA offers resources and support to help guide you through the process. Don't miss out on the opportunity to receive financial assistance while pursuing your dream of a career in healthcare and serving those in need.

It would be your nursing school tuition - pell grant/grants/scholarships= what is billed to HRSA. But some scholarships don't have to be deducted from tuition just depends like if you won a scholarship that is not directly for tuition. Loans can be sent back to lenders too. Your school will send HRSA an invoice. Hope I answered your question!

you can decide to keep your loans or not. It's up to you. But it shouldn't be subtracted from the cost of tuition. I'm pretty sure Pell Grants would be subtracted from tuition though.

Called HRSA yesterday and was told that they are behind. They think they will not be able to start sending out notifications in July but rather in late August or September.

I find it curious that these people are having so much trouble getting it together. Of course, it IS a government agency...

Oh but of course! Good luck to you alll but I think I'm going to stop obsessing about this and enjoy the rest of the summer (if I can).

Thanks for answering my question! I was pretty sure that is what I read, but I needed some sort of confirmation before making the decision to take out a loan. My goal was to make it through nursing school without any so it's been a hard choice, but I think I'll survive. :)

Well hopefully the guy who said August/September is one of the faithful who doesn't know much more than he's told. Because I mean after all, he could have been given incorrect information from his supervisor. Eventually I will have to pay from my 700 dollars worth of books...oh HRSA please hurry...

Sorry, just checked my credit a few minutes ago**

Me either...it makes no sense. By this time last year they had already started checking credit. And I thought with all the extras we had to do this year there would be less people participating in the scholarship, even though there were more awards. Maybe I'm crazy.

There are probably more people who applied, BUT with all the extra's we had to do, you would think A LOT of apps would have been thrown out for missing information and stuff like that...and also those who applied who didn't have an EFC of 0...I guess I don't understand why they don't start this processes sooner so that you have the award by the time school starts.

Aggghhhh.....Just got the online bill for Fall's tuition and fees....I suuuuure wish I could get this scholarship!!!!
