The HRSA Nursing Scholarship

Updated:   Published

The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.

How to Apply for a Scholarship

If you're interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The HRSA Scholarship Program is designed to support students in various healthcare disciplines who are committed to serving underserved communities and helping to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in those areas.

HRSA offer scholarships to help pay for health professions' education.

All Scholarship awardees will provide a one-year service commitment for each year of scholarship support received.

The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.

Scholarship requirements:

To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:

  • Nursing (including RN, ADN, BSN, and graduate-level nursing programs)
  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Certified Nurse-Midwife

You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.

Have no federal judgment liens and service commitment.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for scholarship through the HRSA's online application system.

Scholarship award covers:

  • Tuition and Eligible Fees
  • A monthly stipend for living expenses
  • An annual other reasonable costs payment

If you have any questions about the program or the application process, the HRSA offers resources and support to help guide you through the process. Don't miss out on the opportunity to receive financial assistance while pursuing your dream of a career in healthcare and serving those in need.

I am also in the first funding group! I'm really hoping to get this, I didn't get any of the other scholarships that I applied for...:crying2:

What did you apply for? I got one other one. One I didn't get because someone at the call center lied to me and I didn't get my stuff in on time. Told me there had been an extension and there really had NOT been an extension.

I'm first funding group as well.

The way the information from past years reads, there were 425 people "eligible" (which I believe is best interpreted as "in the first funding group," because a lot of first funding folks didn't get one of the 189 or whatever scholarships last year), which was a jump up from 300-something the year before. If the awareness of it keeps the application numbers growing, plus the fact that with the economic struggles many people are entering nursing school after a terrible year or two financially (which can lead to an EFC of zero), it is entirely possible that the supposed 500 awards will not even be enough for the entire first funding group. Though I hope for the non-zero folks that there aren't that many in the first group and some of you will get consideration this year!

Aww, that would so tick me off! I'm sorry that happened to you. I applied for Rachelle Cagampan Nursing scholarship (sp), Gallagher Koster Healthcare Scholarship (just got my rejection letter today:crying2:), A healthcare scholarship with Kaiser (didn't hear back yet), one at a local hospital, and this HRSA scholarship...That's the ones that I remember off the top of my head.

I'm just hoping that it was meant to be...that I didn't get the small scholarships because I was meant to get this BIG one. Hehe!! Oh I pray!! =]

Has anyone's credit been checked?

I am going to do the trial I guess since people are starting to see I will let you know

stucky621,

That's GREAT! I know from reading old posts from previous years that's them! The person I spoke too at the call center says they only pull credit if they are thinking about offering you the scholarship!! At least it feels like they are doing something now. The bad thing is... I'll be checking even more neurotically now! :) I've tried to just let it go several times, and just can't seem to do it.
