The HRSA Nursing Scholarship

Updated:   Published

The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.

How to Apply for a Scholarship

If you're interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The HRSA Scholarship Program is designed to support students in various healthcare disciplines who are committed to serving underserved communities and helping to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in those areas.

HRSA offer scholarships to help pay for health professions' education.

All Scholarship awardees will provide a one-year service commitment for each year of scholarship support received.

The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.

Scholarship requirements:

To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:

  • Nursing (including RN, ADN, BSN, and graduate-level nursing programs)
  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Certified Nurse-Midwife

You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.

Have no federal judgment liens and service commitment.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for scholarship through the HRSA's online application system.

Scholarship award covers:

  • Tuition and Eligible Fees
  • A monthly stipend for living expenses
  • An annual other reasonable costs payment

If you have any questions about the program or the application process, the HRSA offers resources and support to help guide you through the process. Don't miss out on the opportunity to receive financial assistance while pursuing your dream of a career in healthcare and serving those in need.

Hey guys, I had my credit pulled yesterday 7/13 for a student loan at Wells Fargo (just cause I can't wait till the last minute). I have Triple Alert Credit Monitoring and NOTHING has showed up yet, no "alert" email either. What I read on my disclosures is this:

Disclosure

Each monitoring alert is available on this report from the date the alert is posted, with the most recent addition at the top of each category. Please note that information is reported to your credit report at different times during the day; therefore, although your credit is scanned daily, the actual calendar day of your alert notification and the date your alert is posted may differ.

So we all are probably jumping the gun with worry...

Mine isn't being monitored daily yet. I just got on and my enrollment has been activated yet.

I'm not checking my credit. I'll just wait for a notification. I just hope its before my classes begin...

Do they notify my mail or email or what?

I read somewhere that it is both

I'm really nervous because I went on to freeannualcreditreport.com, and it said that since I'm not 18 yet, I don't even have a credit file. I can't even participate in credit checks then, but I mean I'm still an undergraduate with EFC of 0, graduated as my class salutatorian, and worked really hard to get where I am. I just hope this doesn't hinder me. I think I'm going to stop reading this forum because it just makes me SO nervous! Lol.

I'm on this $30/month plan to have my credit checked constantly everyday so maybe that might be it?

If you don't mind me asking...What company are you using? And whats your last name?

So I went all OCD about this yesterday and actually pulled my own credit just to see if any inquiries have been made, of course not. Then I got all crazy and went back to the 2009 posts and see that some people had their credit checked over 3 months...After all that insanity, I've come to the conclusion, that I have entirely too much time on my hands to think about this......and it appears that most everyone who had their credit checked actually rec'd the scholarship.:hdvwl:

Stacialynn, I'm right there with you! I've done the same.. plus I called them and verified that. I too pulled my own credit and enrolled in a credit monitoring program. These credit monitoring places should be paying HRSA! lol

I can't stop checking email for credit updates and updates to this thread to see if anyone else has had credit pulled. It seems like the previous years offered a pretty good cross section. So.. to have only one person on here with pulled credit is kind of freaking me out! I'm pretty sure I'm one of the only, if not the only, person in my nursing program that applied for this scholarship. My husband and I are on pins and needles waiting for SOME kind of information. As for most of us on here, it would be a major deal! We have four kids and are both in school. My husband works part time from home, but his income fluctuates majorly. A steady amount of money that we knew would at least keep the lights on all the way through school would be such a God send!

It seems that most of us nursing students have the same OCD, neurotic, frantic personalities. They should take this into consideration... how dare them expect all of us nut cases to sit around and wait for months and months on end! :) They should at least post some sort of updates on the website that let's us know they are working on the apps and haven't fallen off the face of the Earth!

Yeah it is weird only one person has had it checked....i check all the time for emails from them, from updates on the post and updates for my credit.

I think I'm going to wear out my "home" and "refresh" buttons! lol... I just sent my dad an IM and blamed him for allowing me to become to become OCD and neurotic! :) He had nothing to do with it, but I decided he should have put a stop to it many years ago, when I was a child and there was still hope for me! ha ha

Okay, new clarifications everyone might be interested in.

First, the call center was recently notified that they will not begin awarding scholarships until the end of July and it will continue through the end of September.

Second, all portions of the scholarship; tuition, lump sums, and monthly stipend; are subject to your local state and federal taxes. This is not pulled out for you, and the suggest contacting a local tax office to determine what you need to be setting aside to pay in taxes.

Third, you are still able to accept the scholarship even if all of your tuition has been covered for the semester by grants, scholarships, and student loans. You would have to contact your school's financial aid office to determine if they were able to return student loans that have already be dispersed. But even if not, you can accept the scholarship and not take out the loans for subsequent semesters.

Finally, she says that they leave the determination of eligibility for service fulfillment up to the facility. The hospital etc. will determine if they qualify as a having a "critical shortage" of nursing staff.

Hope this helps. Good luck!
