The HRSA Nursing Scholarship

Updated:   Published

The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.

How to Apply for a Scholarship

If you're interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The HRSA Scholarship Program is designed to support students in various healthcare disciplines who are committed to serving underserved communities and helping to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in those areas.

HRSA offer scholarships to help pay for health professions' education.

All Scholarship awardees will provide a one-year service commitment for each year of scholarship support received.

The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.

Scholarship requirements:

To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:

  • Nursing (including RN, ADN, BSN, and graduate-level nursing programs)
  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Certified Nurse-Midwife

You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.

Have no federal judgment liens and service commitment.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for scholarship through the HRSA's online application system.

Scholarship award covers:

  • Tuition and Eligible Fees
  • A monthly stipend for living expenses
  • An annual other reasonable costs payment

If you have any questions about the program or the application process, the HRSA offers resources and support to help guide you through the process. Don't miss out on the opportunity to receive financial assistance while pursuing your dream of a career in healthcare and serving those in need.

I totally agree about the date change for notification. I got an email from my school today saying that I need to pay my fees by August 16th!!!! I'm stressed about this and don't even want to go camping with my family because I can't constantly check my email or allnurses.com to see if I got this scholarship. Ugh!!!!!!

Guys, y'all are gonna give yourselves heart attacks. There's nothing you can do to make them hurry up. For most of us, the notifications will NOT come before tuition is due. Just assume this is going to be the case, in fact assume they'll let us know in September, make your financial arrangements as if you are not getting the scholarship (because none of us are RELYING on a chancey scholarship to go to school, right, since we were all accepted before even applying for it?), and focus on getting ready for school - especially since it sounds like most of us are starting NS this fall. Worrying yourself sleepless and sick isn't going to change one tiny thing.

When we get the notifications, we get them, we will celebrate or not celebrate, and hopefully most of us will be sending our fall loan money right back to Uncle Sam and/or Sallie Mae, but right now, all you can do is make sure your a$$ is covered for the fall - just in case - and enjoy what little free time we have left!

i was one of the ones giving my self a heart attack last year waiting for this scholarship. not only did i NOT get it, i didnt find that out until Oct 20th! hows that for waiting? the compulsive checking of credit reports, email, mailbox will not do you any good and it is in vain. the folks that did get it found out starting about the middle of september thru the end of sept. if you read last years thread, it gives you a good idea.

def. proceed as if you are NOT getting it (as far as securing whatever other loans you need to) knowing that if you do get it, it will be a blessing and you can always return the loan money to its original source.

also, if you are not in the first funding preference, i would say there is no chance. there are so many people in the first category (esp this year when more people knew about it) that all the awards will be exhausted before the get to 2nd. there will even be many in the first that dont get it.

i am not trying to be negative, yall. im just trying to alleviate anxiety and encourage everyone to enjoy summer; and the last bit of life before nursing school craziness begins. esp for those of you with families...be prepared to hear them complain about how much you study instead of doing fun stuff with them.

and remember, where theres a will, theres a way and we will all get thru nursing school with or without this HRSA insanity!

good luck to everyone.

You're just being real. And I am a realist!

I've noticed there are a lot of people on here who aren't in the first funding group and may be getting their hopes up. I am in the first group and I'm NOT getting my hopes up!

Even if you don't get the scholarship, I hope everyone is able to find a way to pay for school anyhow! :smokin:

That is so true I started school in Apr. and I hear that a lot. Stop studying come hang out with me. Plus I have a 7 month old it is really hard and this wait is killing me. But I and everyone else here will make it with or with out this loan. Were fighters that's why most of us want to be nurses. :redbeathe I will just keep praying that they will let us know soon.

wow. i dont see how youre doing it with a 7 month old! i thought i was having a hard time with my 15yo son. thankfully, he is a darling.

i know youre trying to be positive, but they WILL NOT let us know soon. dont expect to hear anything before september. and calling does no help, if youre lucky to get someone on the phone, they are usually rude. they have no clue the position we are in.

good luck with the rest of your program. :nurse:

I'm not getting my hopes up--I have all my loans in place to get me through. Again it's a slim chance, but let me dream. Wow...

I am aslo in the first funding group but I have made arrangements to pay for next semester. What we have to realize is that we all actually GOT IN to nursing school. Just getting in is a big accomplishment and we should be happy about that. In the area where I live it is difficulty to get into nursing school without a high GPA or you are put on a waiting list for years. So, I am going to focus on my accomplishments rather then whether I get this scholarship.

I have decided to stop stressing since no one got an email until august or september. Good luck everyone. We all deserve it.

*that was august or September of last year. Had to correct myself

i got an email this morning to fill out the necessary paperwork!!

Slimlady727 - Congrats, how awesome!!! Did they check your credit? If so, which reporting agency had it on there?
