The HRSA Nursing Scholarship

Updated:   Published

The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.

How to Apply for a Scholarship

If you're interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The HRSA Scholarship Program is designed to support students in various healthcare disciplines who are committed to serving underserved communities and helping to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in those areas.

HRSA offer scholarships to help pay for health professions' education.

All Scholarship awardees will provide a one-year service commitment for each year of scholarship support received.

The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.

Scholarship requirements:

To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:

  • Nursing (including RN, ADN, BSN, and graduate-level nursing programs)
  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Certified Nurse-Midwife

You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.

Have no federal judgment liens and service commitment.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for scholarship through the HRSA's online application system.

Scholarship award covers:

  • Tuition and Eligible Fees
  • A monthly stipend for living expenses
  • An annual other reasonable costs payment

If you have any questions about the program or the application process, the HRSA offers resources and support to help guide you through the process. Don't miss out on the opportunity to receive financial assistance while pursuing your dream of a career in healthcare and serving those in need.

Okay, new clarifications everyone might be interested in.

First, the call center was recently notified that they will not begin awarding scholarships until the end of July and it will continue through the end of September.

Second, all portions of the scholarship; tuition, lump sums, and monthly stipend; are subject to your local state and federal taxes. This is not pulled out for you, and the suggest contacting a local tax office to determine what you need to be setting aside to pay in taxes.

Third, you are still able to accept the scholarship even if all of your tuition has been covered for the semester by grants, scholarships, and student loans. You would have to contact your school's financial aid office to determine if they were able to return student loans that have already be dispersed. But even if not, you can accept the scholarship and not take out the loans for subsequent semesters.

Finally, she says that they leave the determination of eligibility for service fulfillment up to the facility. The hospital etc. will determine if they qualify as a having a "critical shortage" of nursing staff.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

I hope for everyone on here's sake we all get notified at the end of July.

Nice work FTStudentFTMom!!!....I would be equally interested in how many applications they rec'd this year and what the "REAL" criteria of being selected truly is.

Me too! Unfortunately, they say that the only thing they are privy too is the first, secon, and third funding preferences. They don't tell anyone how they make the decisions. :( Also, they don't give out the statistics on number of applications etc. until the following year. I told the poor person I was talking to that it was unfair to make them deal with all of these neurotic nursing students without giving them all of the information! :)

Heck, as long as I am notified by August 12, I'm good!

I am new to this site and glad I am not the only crazy one about this scholarship. My family is sick of hearing about it already.

what credit reports are you guys watching

I have been using Triple Alert Credit Monitoring (Monitors all 3 bureaus)..."Allegedly" it will email me anytime there is an inquiry on my credit report...

what credit report are you using? i would love to check mine

Alright...in an effort to get our minds off of HRSA momentarily...is it just me or does the back to school section in the store just make your heart flutter? Seriously the smell of pencils and paper, the crispness of the new back packs, the gleam from the calculator solar panel...it all just makes me happy :redbeathe

Too bad I can't buy any school supplies because I don't know if I'm getting a HRSA Scholarship huh...

Dear HRSA,

We are all nearly dying with anticipation to see if we are recipients of the coveted scholarship. Some of my fellow applicants are running themselves ragged checking email, phone messages, the mail box, and their credit in hopes of some answers. So, all of us here at Allnurses.com would really be jazzed if you guys would stop fiddle farting around and TELL US SOMETHING.

Thank you and have a GREAT day,

CRAZIERTHANYOU

i come here about every other day or so to see if new info about the scholarship has been posted by you guys. im not even going to worry about my credit and refuse to check it. im just trying to enjoy my summer and wait. from previous years they never notifided recipients by july 1st, so i'm not stressing. but what we all need to do is contact hrsa and let them know that they need to change the july 1st notification date because its not fair to us. many us rely on that date for bill clearance etc. it looks like im going to have to apply for a seperate loan because i dont think we will be notifided by the time my bill needs to be cleared. if i get the scholarship, then i'll have extra money.

i cant worry no more, its time consuming!! lets all enjoy our summer, because its almost over.
