The HRSA Nursing Scholarship

Updated:   Published

The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.

How to Apply for a Scholarship

If you're interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The HRSA Scholarship Program is designed to support students in various healthcare disciplines who are committed to serving underserved communities and helping to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in those areas.

HRSA offer scholarships to help pay for health professions' education.

All Scholarship awardees will provide a one-year service commitment for each year of scholarship support received.

The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.

Scholarship requirements:

To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:

  • Nursing (including RN, ADN, BSN, and graduate-level nursing programs)
  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Certified Nurse-Midwife

You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.

Have no federal judgment liens and service commitment.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for scholarship through the HRSA's online application system.

Scholarship award covers:

  • Tuition and Eligible Fees
  • A monthly stipend for living expenses
  • An annual other reasonable costs payment

If you have any questions about the program or the application process, the HRSA offers resources and support to help guide you through the process. Don't miss out on the opportunity to receive financial assistance while pursuing your dream of a career in healthcare and serving those in need.

She said it wouldn't be a problem. Old debt, only looking at federal student loans and service obligations as well as any federal defaults. I checked my credit report and all is good as far as that goes. Phew!

What kind of service obligations show up on your credit? I don't think I have ever had a service obligation.

That was my understanding too but when you log onto your account it says......

- Make sure we have all of your required documents (including the on-line banking portion) to make your application process complete. This is beside the required supplemental documents button. I just recently looked because I did not find the we got your application email till nearly 2 months after it was sent. I got kind of worried because I thought maybe I missed a form so I called them and she said that some people would be required to fill that out. So I was wondering if anyone had been asked to give that info.

I never got a "we got your application" email. Did everyone else?

I am pretty sure I did....

It seems like I got the email right away, after I submitted my application online.

Oh, I didn't realize it was talking about the online portion. I got that one. I thought that someone had gotten one about the written application, and I was pretty sure that online it said that there would be no form of verifying whether they received the written or not.

re; service obligations....

the service obligation is something just like we will have for the HRSA scholarship, where you are required to work somewhere in exchange for tuition payment. You would know if you had one.

Hey I got on their website and only saw a trial for 2 weeks...am I missing something??

Uhms...thats weird. When I signed up, which as just a couple days ago, it said 30 day free trial. I guess they changed it?

It's not a big deal. I just don't want to do it and 2 weeks go by and nothing. I am trying to wait patiently until someone else says theirs has been checked. I talked to a guy in my class that called yesterday, and they told him the call center couldn't tell them when the notifications would be made...that they are only there to answer questions about the scholarship itself. So 1000's of apps wouldn't listen to that...Sounds like NO one knows what is going on!

The guy I spoke to couldn't even unlock my account! He said you didn't really need to log in anymore. That you would be notified through email/mail. I guess that's true but still! We're all going to be busy focusing on this scholarship and not nursing school.

It is crazy that we ALL have to wait this long. I mean its been 2 months since the deadline...and even if people post marked their stuff by the deadline it still has almost been 2 months. There is no reason why it should be taking this long! I'm just frustrated that I may not know before school starts and my financial aid ppl arent the brightest.

I have a couple of questions about the scholarship because now Im really confused!

1. If I accept the Pell will I only have to pay it back and not be excluded from the scholarship?

2. If I accept the Fed Sub. Loan will I only have to pay it back and not be excluded from the scholarship?

My finance was laid off and I need something to get us by...

Does anyone know? Any help would be appreciated! The wait is killin' me!!!!
