The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.

All Scholarship awardees will provide a one-year service commitment for each year of scholarship support received.
The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.
To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:
You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.
Have no federal judgment liens and service commitment.
If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for scholarship through the HRSA's online application system.
If you have any questions about the program or the application process, the HRSA offers resources and support to help guide you through the process. Don't miss out on the opportunity to receive financial assistance while pursuing your dream of a career in healthcare and serving those in need.

When I called yesterday because I had locked myself out of my account by using the wrong password the guy told me that they had over several thousand applicants and they were still going through them. He said unfortunately it was looking like Aug or Sept before they know anything. Looks like they are going to do it again.
I wouldn't take what they say too literally though. Those people really don't know much of anything. Go read last years posts and each person got told something different about the same question. Or just like the credit thing in this years posts....I mean it probably wont be until Aug or Sept...but then again you never know.
Wow! Thousands of applicants!!?? That sounds a little discouraging especially since the previous years only had 300-400 applicants...oh well, that is probably why they wanted essays, letters of recommendations, etc. I wonder if someone called again, if they would get the same information? I read last years posts and there were a lot of discrepancies with the information provided by the customer service reps...what can you say, it's the government...we get to hurry up and wait!! :-)
Well it said that in 2009 they had 425 eligible applications. They could have had thousands, but not all of them qualified for one reason or another. I would guess that most of the applications they got were not 0 EFCs, because there are people hoping that somehow, someway they get the scholarship, and I don't blame them. If my EFC wasn't 0, I would have applied anyway, too.
You won't get the same info because I had to call again today to talk to ask someone if I would lose my pell grant if I got the scholarship and she said they were planning to have the award letters out by the end of July. I really do not think that they know anything except how to unlock you from your account and answer basic questions on how to fill out the application. Anyone receive a link to fill out banking info?

Okay so they have 425 eligible applications and didn't I read somewhere they were giving 500 scholarships?? So wouldn't that mean all 425 eligible apps would get the scholarship??

Well that was last year. It seems to go up a little every year. Who knows how many they had exactly this year, but it would seem it would maybe be only a little over 500, considering the numbers from the previous 2 years. They said they had 340 eligible applicants from 2008. (got the info from here: Nursing Scholarship Program)
That was my understanding too but when you log onto your account it says......
- Make sure we have all of your required documents (including the on-line banking portion) to make your application process complete. This is beside the required supplemental documents button. I just recently looked because I did not find the we got your application email till nearly 2 months after it was sent. I got kind of worried because I thought maybe I missed a form so I called them and she said that some people would be required to fill that out. So I was wondering if anyone had been asked to give that info.
That was a requirement for last year (the banking info) and they did not update the website. Nor did they update the date of notification on the nsp website, but it is correct on the HRSA page. I called before sending in my app and all 4 diff people I spoke to said "do not send banking info" it also said not to send it in the application packet.
I called today to check on the credit report requirements- nervous about stuff from 20 years ago but she said it was fine. Again asked her about the date of notification and she said end of July. She said they are not given a count of how many have applied, they are just there to answer questions about the scholarship and they can't see where we stand in the processing of applications nor how many people have applied. So I would ignore the "thousands" it is highly doubtful, especially seeing that we had to jump through hoops this year and in previous years it was a very simple process.

It was my understanding that in the past they had to fill out the banking portion as part of the application, but I remember reading or asking about the banking portion because I thought I forgot that, and it says you will only have to do this when you get offered the scholarship.
The guy I asked about the credit said that his boss said that if they did not give scholarships to students with bad credit they would not have many qualified applicants. We didn't get an EFC of 0 because we have tons of money. My credit was ruined after divorce but they are mostly looking to make sure that you don't have any defaulted student loans or any judgements against you owed to the government. If bad credit goes against you than I'm out of the running for sure.
