The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.
If you're interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The HRSA Scholarship Program is designed to support students in various healthcare disciplines who are committed to serving underserved communities and helping to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in those areas.
HRSA offer scholarships to help pay for health professions' education.
All Scholarship awardees will provide a one-year service commitment for each year of scholarship support received.
The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.
To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:
You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.
Have no federal judgment liens and service commitment.
If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for scholarship through the HRSA's online application system.
If you have any questions about the program or the application process, the HRSA offers resources and support to help guide you through the process. Don't miss out on the opportunity to receive financial assistance while pursuing your dream of a career in healthcare and serving those in need.

yeah thats what i meant...I didn't think that hrsa would cover the tuition if there was any other scholarships paying for it, i thought they would just pay the difference of what was due after the other scholarships paid out. What you are saying is that hrsa went ahead and paid for all of your tuition, allowing you to get a refund check of the other scholarship..does that make sense? I am curious to see how it works out because right now i have a lot of other scholarships and grants. If I could get a refund check for some of those other scholarships that would help out with living expenses which would be great! Which year did you get hrsa? are you still in school or working?

I had a $10,000 scholarship that was allowed to be spent as I wished and it did not stipulate that it had to be used for tuition. So when I got the HRSA grant, I had my school send them a bill for all the tuition that I had already paid because I was allowed to take that money back and do with it what I liked. HRSA was totally fine with that, and my school cut me a refund check, essentially paying me back my original scholarship money. Now if it was a scholarship that had to be used for tuition only, then no, I could not have done what I did. So basically, it depends on how your other scholarships are allowed to be used. I got the HRSA grant just this past year and I will graduate with my BSN this December. So HRSA paid for all 18 months of my program:yeah:
Hi Everyone!
I just logged on to this site to check the status on this Grant! I was not able to apply this year, but will be applying next year! I hope you guys all get it! Afterall when I called they said they were giving out 500! So that is great news! I hope they are giving out 500 next year! So basically do you just fill out the application and have the letters of recomendation sent and just wait to hear back in July or Sept? If so then will they back pay for everything you have allready paid so far? Because my classes begin next March, that means I will have to pay up untill I find out? Also in regards to the letters of recomendation that are specific to their questions, who did you get those from? Your past college professors? Any information would be much appreciated! Thank you everyone, just trying to prepare myself for next year lol. Have a great 4th oF July! :)

the scholarships become available every year in april. we are all waiting to see who qualified for this upcoming school year, 2010-2011. because your classes start in march you have to wait until the next school years application is available. the recommendations are to be from a professor and someone outside of school. i got my recommendation from one of my current nursing professors and the director of at daycare that i volunteer at. i hope this helped....
Hi Slimlady727,Thank you so much for all the helpful information! But do you know if they backpay your monthly stipend and tuition? Let me know whenever you get a chance! Good luck to all of you, im sure you will all get it! :)
The first payment according to the website is in October and they will back pay up to July, plus add in the one time amount.

They will only backpay you from the time the award started, but not for previous years of schooling. So for example, the awards begin for everyone on July 1st of the application year, but awardees in my group didn't get notified until October. So when I got my first payment, they paid me my stipend from July to November and then backpaid my tuition with a pro-rate from July 1st. But if you are in school this year and get lucky enough to get the award NEXT summer, then no...they will not backpay you for any months of school attended prior to the award start. HTH!
Been awhile since I've been on here...looks like everyone is stressing too! I'm trying not to think about it and start back at school tomorrow, so hopefully that'll keep me busy and not constantly thinking about this! ;-) I've also read in previous forums that it's always been last minute notifications, like between 9/15 - 9/30, never in July as much as I'm sure they'd love to get us off their backs, lol.
I was thinking, when everyone posts about their credit getting checked, please say which credit reporting agency you saw them use (TransUnion, Equifax, Experian), because most places don't check all three!
Good luck everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, I meant I was able to pocket what I got from the OTHER scholarship becasue it didn't have a stipulation that it had to be used for tuition. So HRSA back paid my tuition after I was notified, and then my school cut me a refund check because I had already paid my tuition from my first scholarship. No, if you have a scholarship that can only be used to pay for your tuition, then HRSA will only pay you your stipend, ORC, and any fees or left over tuition not already covered. You won't get a refund check from them, LOL. Still a good deal, though, if you ask me!
