The HRSA Nursing Scholarship

Updated:   Published

The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.

How to Apply for a Scholarship

If you're interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The HRSA Scholarship Program is designed to support students in various healthcare disciplines who are committed to serving underserved communities and helping to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in those areas.

HRSA offer scholarships to help pay for health professions' education.

All Scholarship awardees will provide a one-year service commitment for each year of scholarship support received.

The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.

Scholarship requirements:

To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:

  • Nursing (including RN, ADN, BSN, and graduate-level nursing programs)
  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Certified Nurse-Midwife

You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.

Have no federal judgment liens and service commitment.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for scholarship through the HRSA's online application system.

Scholarship award covers:

  • Tuition and Eligible Fees
  • A monthly stipend for living expenses
  • An annual other reasonable costs payment

If you have any questions about the program or the application process, the HRSA offers resources and support to help guide you through the process. Don't miss out on the opportunity to receive financial assistance while pursuing your dream of a career in healthcare and serving those in need.

Has anyone's credit been checked??

I just checked mines today. Nothing...:crying2::eek:

Mine either! :crying2: but can i check my credit more then once a year for free?

You can pull once a year from each of the three companies. I have a freecreditreport.com account, that monitors Experian only. I just checked it and I haven't had an inquiry. Last year I know people started seeing pulls on July 7th (which would be tomorrow). Maybe they are just bypassing the credit check and giving it to all of us

Hey, I know it sounds absurd, but a girl can wish right? I can't wait to go back to school, because being able to check my e-mail and this forum everyday is stressing me out way too much. Maybe if I received the grant I could use the ORC to pay for the Nexium needed to heal the ulcer that is currently forming :lol2:

Of course you can! Try identity Guard. I'm using the free trial for 30 days! I like this one because it gives you inquiries for all three credit bureaus. Hehe. Just make sure you cancel before 30 days or else they will charge your credit card. [its happen to me before, I completely forgot]

and once it expires sign up again for another free trial! I think freecreditreport finally figured out what I was doing so now they are charging 2 something to view credit report. :D

Thanks for the info guys! I can't wait to go back to school either the wait is killing me too.

Does anyone know if they had to do essays and rec letters in previous years?

I applied for the scholarship too and I noticed from reading past posts of the previous years that if I receive a pell grant or other scholarships then they will not pay my tuition, yet I still have to give them 2 years of work. I applied so I did not have to take out anymore loans. If I loose my grants then I will still have to take out loans because the stipend does not come close to covering my bills. The nursing program I am in told me that it is almost impossible to work the last 3 semesters. I don't want another $24,000 in student loans. This sucks!

I was hoping for more info about this scholarship and the pell grant...i mean if you have a efc of 0 you would be intitled to the pell grant, so would they use the pell grant first then take the rest from the hrsa or what? Any one know?

Does anyone know if they had to do essays and rec letters in previous years?

I applied in the two years previous (didnt get it) but we did not have to do essays or letters of rec. This was new this year. Anxiously awaiting. I qualified both years but since they didn't give out many I wasn't chosen. Qualify again this year, keeping my fingers crossed!!!!

Last year people were locked out of their NSP account as soon as they were selected. Dont know if they will do that this year or not. They also notified on the very last day of the deadline for notifications. I remember reading we would hear if we got it by the end of July. If we didn't get it we will not be notified until October.

Had a first class envelope in the mail yesterday and almost passed out thinking it was a notification, but alas, it was just my renewed passport. Keep watching your email :) They didn't have long to respond via fax once they received the email (I think it was 24 hours or maybe just a tad more). They will also notifiy alternates at the same time.

Good luck everyone!!

Just an FYI for those who were saying we wouldn't find out in July

"Applicants selected to receive the scholarship are notified by postal letter no later than the end of July."

I am not finding anything that says they will notify via email this year, has anyone else? It was a real problem for people last year, stressing out over missing the email and the deadline
