  1. Im a student, yet I'll weigh in It's VERY important! If you have a patient come in with a K+ level of 3.2, it will be important for you to be able to tell them dietary ways to keep their potassium at optimal levels. Also, the majority of your patients will have weight issues, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and coronary artery disease....nutrition counsel will be much needed in those patients :)
  2. I was doing my clinical rotation for the first time in this particular ER last week and met the most awesome MD! In fact, I didn't actually know he was a Dr. until about 3 hours into the shift, he was wearing scrubs almost the same shade as mine and when someone asked me to "give this to the Doctor" I was thinking "Where the hell is that guy anyway, I have seen him here all morning!?" Turns out it was the guy everyone was joking around with about every subject under the sun all morning. I wish they could all be that way :yelclap:
  3. To the original poster- It can be very difficult to change deep-seated ideas, until the time comes when you are thrust into a position that makes the situation real to you. I've been watching "Survived: Beyond and Back" and it had the story of a MD that believed in the sciences as opposed to religion. Everything was black and white. Then, it all changed once he died because he was brought back to life after his heart had stopped. He had a profound experience that made the concept of religion and God real to him. He now works with hospice patients to help ease the minds of the terminally ill. Perspicacity can sometimes only be achieved when something is tangible. Personally, in regards to "drug seekers", I would rather have 9 patients recieve pain medications that don't necessarily need them if it meant that 1 patient out of 10 would not have to suffer horribly because a disease process that is not fully yet understood.
  4. Wow! I probably would have been fired that day! If I was that child's mother the DR would likely be joining my baby in the afterlife!
  5. I miss her too...so often I look at her posts for support....
  6. Hey everyone! I've talked to some of you in the past and just wanted to give you a little bit of encouragement as I just started a couple of weeks ago. There are so many horror stories on AN's about "boot camp" style orientations, horrible instructors trying to fail you and whatnot....just wanted to tell you that every single instructor I have met has been AMAZING! They really do care about you AND want you to succeed. They let you know off the bat that Pima is hard, but they will be there with you every step of the way. I went into NS absolutely terrified after reading page after page of bad experiences. Hope this helps to ease your mind! GL and study hard!!! Rachel
  7. Im counting on putting on some weight, and I've packed on about 5 pounds already! My lecture instructor is really hilarious....she asked us all in the middle of lecture if we have gained weight yet, and of course, most of us nodded our heads yes, but some didn't.....she got a big smile on her face and said quite confidently "oh.....you willllllllll" :) Im okay with being chunky as long as Im an RN at the end of it or Im going to be one P'ed off chunky woman.
  8. Not much advice on this side, just wanted to tell you how awesome you are for helping her out. Im happy if my fiance somehow dresses my 3 year old while Im at school. When I call on the phone "Hey hon, did Jazzy eat dinner" "yes" "what did she eat" "cheese its" ":::sigh:::" But, hey! If your ever single.... j/k no...but seriously :)
  9. The second day of class of my first semester I sat next to a sick student. It was the first time I was in that class and I noticed about 3 minutes after sitting down how sick she was. I didn't want to embarass her by moving so I just sat there and tried to hold my breath....yeah....well....didn't work. I've been sick as a dog for the past week! I wouldn't have gone to clinicals the first week, but how would that have looked?!? Im sure Im the one everyone is trying to avoid now.
  10. Good Morning all! The stress of waiting for this scholarship is killing me!!!! I noticed a lot of you are in extreme financial distress and want to encourage you to look into government and local funding to help you through this hard time. With my fiance losing his job and myself being a full time student, I've had to take advantage of a couple of programs or my electric and water would have been turned off. Thank goodness for these programs or I dont know where I would be!!! If you would like some ideas or even some help finding some programs in your area, please dont hesitate to PM me and I may be able to help. We have enough stress with our nursing programs! Good luck to all! :::fingers crossed for Monday::: :)
  11. There may be more than just 9 days, JV called me on a Sunday afternoon :) Dont give up!!
  12. I got an email from my analyst saying that they needed the paperwork from my school because they are having problems processing my award. So, Im going to be having a fit at my FA tomorrow, ugh! But, it does seem hopeful!!!
  13. I got my letter this morning!! I am going for my Associates at a Community College in AZ... faxing my paperwork first thing in the morning! O...M....G!!!!!!!!
  14. Thanks for answering my question! I was pretty sure that is what I read, but I needed some sort of confirmation before making the decision to take out a loan. My goal was to make it through nursing school without any so it's been a hard choice, but I think I'll survive. :)
  15. I have a couple of questions about the scholarship because now Im really confused! 1. If I accept the Pell will I only have to pay it back and not be excluded from the scholarship? 2. If I accept the Fed Sub. Loan will I only have to pay it back and not be excluded from the scholarship? My finance was laid off and I need something to get us by... Does anyone know? Any help would be appreciated! The wait is killin' me!!!!
