Hunter College NYC ANP program
Ok, so I did not get in because according to Hunter I only have 9 months of RN experience and they want at least 1 yr. My GPA in BSN nursing of 3.91 was not enough. They told me to reapply for the spring 2013 since i'll have the experience necessary to get into the program. On the other hand NYU did accept me for the acute care np but they don't want to give me any scholarships . I guess i'll wait for spring 2013.

New Grad Nurse in NY...advice on landing that first job!
My 2 cents. I was a new grad back in August 2011 and landed in an ICU setting as a Staff RN 2 months after graduation. Also received MANY offers from other hospitals to work for them (this was not happening to my friends). What did I do different? First, I made sure my resume was written by a PROFESSIONAL resume writer, I also had f/u letters and thank you notes written professionally. After that i submitted applications online BUT what really worked for me was going to hospitals and knocking doors down.....yes...you read right! I went to hospitals and presented myself to prospective employers, I worked 24 hours for those two months after graduation and finally landed MANY interviews and my dream job. Recently I got accepted to start the Acute Care NP at NYU in the Fall 2012. Moral of the story. Be pro-active, don't do what everybody does (online submissions, they write their own horrible resumes....blah....blah...blah). Be creative, but among all, stop spending too much time on boards complaining and take that precious time to take action. BTW, i'm not saying that you guys are complaining, I mean it in general, it's a saying :). God luck!

1 year= NP? And programs with this?
University of Miami have NP programs that you can finish in 1year or 2 years.

New Grad just got called for an interview with NSLIJ
I am a new grad with a BSN. I currently work as an ICU nurse and had no previous healthcare or RN experience. I spent 2 months after I graduated sending applications online and also visiting hospitals. Don't sit down in front of the computer and then think that you will get a job like that. Do that, but what will really get you those interviews is by visiting hospitals and dropping your resume. Also, ask to speak to the nurse recruiter. After you drop your resume, always follow up with them and remind them that you are still interested in working for them. The key is to be proactive. Nothing will happen right away but if you have made your job searching your full time job then one day you'll be surprised when you start getting calls from everybody. Again, key is persistence, positive attitude, being prepared for on-spot interviews. If you follow these simple steps then SOMEONE SOMEWHERE WILL NOTICE YOU. Good luck!

NYU v. Columbia
I don't think GPA is the main thing they look at. I got accepted last year into the accelerated BSN with a 3.1 GPA. I decided not to attend NYU and went to another school where I received my BSN in 12 months. Just graduated in August and already working in the ICU :). BTW, I ended up with a 3.91 in my nursing program

C.U.N.Y Hostos Community College, Bronx, New York
You don't need to do accelerated then, but you can do traditional.

If you have a bachelors in something else then do an accelerated or traditional BSN!!!! Jobs are limited, especially for ADN. Most hospitals are either Magnet or looking to get Magnet status so they will hire a BSN RN vs a ADN RN. Hunter College has an accelerated 14 month program and it is a CUNY school.

Anybody working or has interviewed for St. Barnabas in the Bronx?? HELP!!
I am a new grad with a BSN and have never done clinicals or externship for that hospital. In fact, I have no RN experience. I just graduated this August. I just walked in one day and was lucky to get an interview on the spot. They actually hired two more new grads from my school. We will be the first group for a residency at the ICU.

Not at all. Review how to calculate gtt, units per hour or minute. It is all multiple choice so you'll be able to recognize the right number. Also, review corticosteroids, beta blockers, HTN meds, technique for IM injections, patient identification before med administration, metamucil, NPH insulin, and regular dispensing of meds. I for forgot the rest.

Hi. Yes, I got the job. I start on Monday:). Process with HR was quick. I did physical exam, pharm exam (no calculators allowed), met with nurse recruiter and filled out some income tax documents. Where will you be working? I'm in the ICU.

After 20 MONTHS of job search.....i give up.
I'm sorry for what you are going through. I graduated in August 2011 with a BSN. I have no RN experience at all. My first degree was in Theater Arts. Ever since I graduated in August I was applying for jobs online and when October came by and I realized my strategy was not working I decided to be proactive and I took my resumes, letter of recommendations, transcripts, and certifications to hospitals all over NYC. To my surprise I got an interview on the spot in a nice hospital. Three days later I was hired as an ICU nurse in that same hospital. That same week I started receiving calls from my online submissions. So the moral of the story is, do not get discouraged, look at what you are doing and maybe twitch some things around. Go out there and apply in person. Review your resume (even pay someone to write a professional resume). I know that you will tell me that hospitals do not like that, but DO NOT PAY ATTENTION TO THEM! The more you go out there and persist bigger the changes that somebody will listen to you. Sometimes people gives you a chance when they see that you are interested. Also, it is not the same when a nurse recruiter is going through applications and not be able to put a face to the application. Also smile, and be very confident when you meet a prospective employer because even if you don't agree with me, how you feel about the whole job searching will come through your expressions and the way you handle the interview. Good luck!
