  1. I took a gamble and turned the job down over the weekend. Luckily, I was offered a job today at a different hospital that offers 12 weeks with a preceptor plus classroom training time (residency). Yay!
  2. This particular job is in Oklahoma. I'm licensed in Oklahoma, California, Texas, and Kentucky! Silly, but I wanted to increase my chances of getting picked up in more than one state. (Grew up in Oklahoma/have family there, have lived in California for many years and am currently located there, want to live in Texas, went to nursing school in Kentucky.....if you are wondering why those particular states lol) I participated in the Nursing Scholarship Program. They paid for my schooling and in return, I have to work 2 years in an "underserved" area. They count pretty much any hospital as being "underserved" though. I have applied for an extension, but my deadline for finding a job is supposed to be in 2 weeks. I may have to end up settling....but I'm thinking LTC would be better than a hospital job with poor training?
  3. So after months and months of applying, I have finally received a job offer for a med-surg RN position at a small community hospital. I would be over the moon if they hadn't told me they only offer 2-3 weeks of training. It seems standard to have at least 8 for a new grad brand new to the hospital, yes? I have never worked in healthcare or at a hospital as an aide or tech.....student clinical experience only. I've never had any type of IV training During the interview, I asked about the orientation/training. She said "to be honest, it's not very good", but that they would only stick me with 3 patients instead of the normal 5 for awhile. I don't know if I should take it and hope for the best or try to wait for a job with better training?
  4. I applied Monday morning...within hours of it being posted. The rejection email said they received 1200 applications! The email basically said they were only considering the first 500 and that they had a rigorous screening process to figure out who to give interviews to. Then it said I was not being offered an interview but was invited to apply for Spring 2013 blah blah. Good luck to those still in the process!
  5. What does it mean if your app was referred to a specific hospital after the final interview dates on the website? Is it kind of like a formality...like if you are qualified they will refer you even if there are no spots left? I applied pretty late in the game and had given up hope for the June cohort. I reapplied for the October cohort but have not heard anything regarding that application. Last Friday, I got an email saying my June cohort resume was forwarded/routed to Brack. Oh well....not getting my hopes up!
  6. I'll play while we wait... 1) External 2) No paid experience 3) 25 4) BSN December 2011 5) NKU 3.92 6) Southern Orange County.....is that close enough? 7) I forget the breakdown exactly but it seemed fairly even across the board. Lol hopefully that doesn't mean I don't have the strengths they are looking for 8) No interview emails....I submitted the application on Monday late morning but I don't know if it was before noon! Hopefully they will consider the first 500 qualified applicants (like meeting the requirement of graduating within the last year or have taken a refresher, etc)
  7. It seems if you are interested in public health, the corrections job could be highly beneficial. I live in SoCal at the moment and while housing can be expensive, it is possible to find cheaper places in less desirable locations. Have you posted on the correctional nursing forum to see if opportunities for other fields are limited for them? Personally, I would kill for a new grad ED opportunity though! Good luck in whatever you decide!! Congrats on multiple job offers :)
  8. Wheeling Hospital in WV opened up a new building and has a lot of jobs up. I am not nearly as qualified as you but was asked to come for an interview in ED. I ended up passing because there didn't seem to be adequate child care for my kid but it might be worth a try for you!
  9. Got the standard rejection email this morning. Oh well. Good luck to all of you who are moving forward :)
  10. That's great!!!! So happy for you....wish you hadn't had to go through the last 48 hours of misery though!
  11. Waitlisted for women's health
  12. Does anyone know if they allow phone or Skype interviews for out of state applicants? My permanent address is technically in Orange County (not like that matters though!) but I am in my last semester of nursing school in Kentucky. Last minute plane tickets for my 2yo daughter and I would be quite expensive! I wish she was under 2 and could still fly free on my lap!
  13. I interviewed Monday of this week for women's health. It was fine...everyone is so nice!
  14. I was not prompted to take an assessment either. I submitted the 4 documents (2 LOR, Resume, and CL) on different days...I uploaded my last LOR today and was hoping for a prompt. Was it supposed to be an immediate thing to pop up?
