The HRSA Nursing Scholarship

Updated:   Published

The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.

How to Apply for a Scholarship

If you're interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The HRSA Scholarship Program is designed to support students in various healthcare disciplines who are committed to serving underserved communities and helping to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in those areas.

HRSA offer scholarships to help pay for health professions' education.

All Scholarship awardees will provide a one-year service commitment for each year of scholarship support received.

The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.

Scholarship requirements:

To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:

  • Nursing (including RN, ADN, BSN, and graduate-level nursing programs)
  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Certified Nurse-Midwife

You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.

Have no federal judgment liens and service commitment.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for scholarship through the HRSA's online application system.

Scholarship award covers:

  • Tuition and Eligible Fees
  • A monthly stipend for living expenses
  • An annual other reasonable costs payment

If you have any questions about the program or the application process, the HRSA offers resources and support to help guide you through the process. Don't miss out on the opportunity to receive financial assistance while pursuing your dream of a career in healthcare and serving those in need.

Here is the link I found: HRSA - Find a Health Center - Search Page

I do not see UCLA Medical Center does this mean the hospital is not approved by HRSA. Everyone keeps on saying that literally every hospital in the country is approved but it would be nice to actually find a list of hospitals approved, maybe I will ask my analyst.

No, that page is not the one used for the NSP! That page shows facilities for physicians and such. Our funding is based on entirely different shortage research. Your analyst will give you the info for the lady at HRSA who handles the site approval. Tell her where you live and what areas you want to work in and she can send you a spreadsheet. The spreadsheets are very large, so if you want, you can tell her the facilities you want to work at and she can say 'yay' or 'nay'. I don't know if every hospital in the country is approved but every hospital in Arizona is, so that leads me to believe that much of the country is fair game!

Can you send me a private message so I can contact the lady who is in charge of the facilities list? My anaylsts takes forever to get back to me!

Anyone heard anything about when we should receive the welcome packets?

I can't find her contact info now, I'm sure it's buried in a sea of emails. I just saved the excel spreadsheet cause that was all I really cared about for the time being! Besides, I don't know if it's only one person who handles the whole country. Your best bet is to just wait for your analyst to get back to you and she/he can steer you in the appropriate direction.

This is the number I received from my analyst to call about commitment questions. And I am assuming it is for the lady who can tell you what facilities. I called Friday, but the lady I needed to talk to was already gone for the day.

someone mentioned (elsewhere) getting an email from NSP yesterday....anybody get it here? If so, what did it say?

This is what the email said:

Dear Nurse Scholarship Program (NSP)Awardee:

Thank you for your patience. Your NSP award letter is attached to this e-mail. Please use the attached copy as proof of your NSP award until you receive the official NSP Welcome Packet, which will be mailed to you by the end of next week. Therefore, please verify your mailing address. Also, please be aware that an NSP introductory webinar is scheduled for October 5 and 6, 2010. You will receive the internet link and call in number for the webinar next week via e-mail. Please feel free to contact your NSP Analyst should you have questions at 301-XXX-XXXX. Thank You.

Then there was a letter attached but its in PDF and I can't copy it, plus it has all of my info in it like my name, address, school, graduation date, etc.

I did not receive any emails but I called my analyst CF yesterday and she told me that I will be receiving a letter by the end of September with instructions for the school personnel to follow regarding how to handle the scholarship payments.

I believe that since I am a late awardee they were not ready to send me that email.

I wasn't a late one and I haven't received it yet either
