The HRSA Nursing Scholarship

Updated:   Published

The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.

How to Apply for a Scholarship

If you're interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The HRSA Scholarship Program is designed to support students in various healthcare disciplines who are committed to serving underserved communities and helping to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in those areas.

HRSA offer scholarships to help pay for health professions' education.

All Scholarship awardees will provide a one-year service commitment for each year of scholarship support received.

The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.

Scholarship requirements:

To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:

  • Nursing (including RN, ADN, BSN, and graduate-level nursing programs)
  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Certified Nurse-Midwife

You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.

Have no federal judgment liens and service commitment.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for scholarship through the HRSA's online application system.

Scholarship award covers:

  • Tuition and Eligible Fees
  • A monthly stipend for living expenses
  • An annual other reasonable costs payment

If you have any questions about the program or the application process, the HRSA offers resources and support to help guide you through the process. Don't miss out on the opportunity to receive financial assistance while pursuing your dream of a career in healthcare and serving those in need.

I also got the email.

IF you check out the facebook page. I think a lot of us post of there and not here.

That's a great idea but for me I don't do the whole Facebook thing. Long story but life is simpler for me without it :) So I will b prob one of the only one's who check and update here and only here :bluecry1:

the email that contained the cover letter stated that my contract would end one month after my graduation 6/2012. Did everyone get a contract that covered their remaining time in school. I read in an earlier post that you get a one year contract and that they later offer you the extension for any additional time you need?

Mine was also until 6/2012 but I signed for two years.

Mine is until 2012 but i also signed for one year because i graduate in 11 months.

Maybe they are giving you the two years of funding because your graduation date requires you two years of service anyway?

What is the facebook page called? I can't seem to find it...

So....some hospitals in my area offer the deal where if you work both a Saturday and Sunday, they will pay you full time with benefits. Do you think this could qualify as working full-time?

all your answers can be found, clear as mud, in the documents on the website

Nursing Scholarship Program

I believe in the long PDF they talk about part time service and how that fulfils your obligation.

How many hours must I work at a health care facility with a critical shortage of nurses to be considered full-time?

Full-time employment is considered to be no less than 32 hours of nursing services per week for a minimum of 45 weeks per year. At least 26 hours per week must be spent providing clinical services to patients.

Under certain circumstances, a Nursing Scholar may complete the service obligation on a part-time basis. Scholars wishing to serve part-time must obtain prior approval from the NSP and must agree to extend the service obligation to equal the full-time commitment.

Thank you much!

anyone got their packet in the mail yet?

Still no packet here... wish we got it in time for the webinar! Even if not, we can access it later on to reference it once we do get the packets - HOORAY for phone calls (especially when they come a MONTH after a rejection letter!). Such a happy thing!
