Nursing Students Male Students

Hi All!

I'm a crazy father of 2 ex-premed who just recently turned down Northwestern to go into a RN program.

I already have an Associate in Science, but I'll be getting another ADN and then go to a 4 yr school.

When I went to an info session about the RN program ill be trying to get into, out of like 70 ppl only 5 were guys.

So I want to know are there any men out there?

Hi Jlaine,

Which on-line school did you attend for you BSN?

Hi im Tony! I am a LVN working on going back for my RN, ADN then to MSN. In my LVN program we had 5 or 6 guys and only 2 at graduation. I am looking to go back to San Jac for my RN and that program is mostly male over female at least it was when I was at the campus. This is the first time I will have to balance work and school and I am excited but at the same time nervous.

I am taking the tease test, and applying this fall. I am 27 My own history as a patient led me to the field. One day I decided it was right for me, and then discovered my neighbors son was going for his NP! Going for my ADN, crossing my fingers glad to have this opportunity!

Hey brother, 22 yr. old Nursing student ADN Nursing Program in a community college! Best wishes. Btw, we have 5 males in class of 35

I am starting Medical Careers Institute on Aug 25th for last pre-requisite and then start the RN program on November 2nd. Any advice from you guys on how to prepare for the start of the Nursing program. Thanks so much for the help in this endeavor.

That sounds about right. When I went to nursing school I have 3 guys in my cohort. Those three guys are my best friends today.

I am the only guy in my MSN-FNP class!

In the ER I work at we are predominant guys for my night shift crew. Works out well because we get the work done without so-called "boyfriend or baby-daddy drama" (for some nurses)

Guess time to be the ladies man! HA!

28 year old male graduated college back in 2011 with a degree in criminal justice studies. Thinking wanting to be a cop hopped aboard an ambulance and caught the bug of wanting to be in healthcare. Started working in the healthcare field in 2010 volunteer with a local ambulance company. From there worked per diem for 8 month's with the anesthesia department at a local hospital as a Tech. Then jumped over to psych where I worked two year's at a hospital. Left to work for a group home for a 6 month's and a month in sterile processing. Now about 6 month's working psych still interested in healthcare field and love patient care decided should get the ball rolling on being a nurse. Bit apprehensive planning to take prerequisite classes coming Spring hoping to bang out everything before I am 30. Really don't want to stop life and don't want to be held back with career goals. Hoping can juggle nursing school with getting married next year and having kids hopefully in the near future. Know being a nurse will offer some stability and advance myself in skills can provide towards patient's. Hoping to continue with psych or into corrections as a nurse.

I'm in my third semester at Keiser University. I'll finish in APR 2016. I'm 56 and on my third career after the military and government contracting. As for a role model, no. I just do what I feel I need to.

Specializes in EMS, LTC, Sub-acute Rehab.

I'm almost half way through my LPN program. This is my third career after the military. I'm not having any problems with the academics or clinicals but the cattiness, cliques, gossip and backstabbing is starting to get on my nerves. Hoping to get into the VA hospital so they can pay for my bridge to RN. Best of luck to all of the other guys out there!

51 y/o here. BS Biology, MS Entomology, 10 years as a US Navy Medical Entomologist. Guess what? Not too many good jobs out there for an experienced bug guy...so, here I am in my 5th quarter working on my ASN. Hope to graduate next September and start on my new career. So far, school has been challenging, but not overwhelming and I must say, I am thoroughly enjoying myself!!

53 this month, Starting block 1 in Jan '16.

What a journey, but what an experience and my life is never boring.

36 years old, went from a life in culinary arts, restaurants, hotels etc to going back to school for nursing. Close to done with my pre-req's and will enter the nursing track in the fall. Usually the only guy in the bio classes that have most if not all future nursing track students.
