The Guys Club: Guy Students Come on In!

Published

Hi All!

I'm a crazy father of 2 ex-premed who just recently turned down Northwestern to go into a RN program.

I already have an Associate in Science, but I'll be getting another ADN and then go to a 4 yr school.

When I went to an info session about the RN program ill be trying to get into, out of like 70 ppl only 5 were guys.

So I want to know are there any men out there?

Specializes in Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN).

60 Y.O. (So you're never to old to go into nursing). Graduated last year from the Accelerated BSN program at Georgetown. Going to work next month at a VA hospital.

There were 8 guys in my cohort of 57.

38 year old male hopefuly entering rn nursing program in 2 semesters.not sure if being out numbered is good or bad yet lol see a lot of heavy lifting in my future lol

also heavily tattoed anyone else come across problems with this

43 year old male starting RN program in 2 weeks. I do not know how many guys will be in my class of 16, I have orientation on 8/30/12. I guess I'll find out then. As for tats. I have a full sleeve on the left and half sleeve on the right, not a problem in class but clinicals I have been told I have to cover up. I find underarmor makes good long sleeve compression shirts that cover up and not too hot. Good luck!

Shout out to all Male nursing students! I am 43 and went back to school last year, knocked out my pre-reqs and applied to the fall 2012 program. Found out I was accepted with a 3.8 GPA and will start in 2 weeks. I am a combat veteran ( 8 1/2 years of service ). I have always enjoyed science and medicine. After my previous wife died from cancer I decided to resign from my job of 15 years and return to school and become a nurse. Last year I married an awesome woman who has supported my dream of becoming a nurse whole heartedly and by the way she is a ICU Nurse. Any way I am looking forward to the challenge and wish you all good luck and Semper Fi!

Thanks for the shout out and Good luck to you. I'm a Veteran as well and my spouse is also a Nurse (Capt) in the AF.

My incoming class has 11 out of 48 which seems to be a huge #. Big ups to all the males hangin in there though! started my RN program yesterday!

I'm a 26 yr old male student. My class is either 50 or 60 people (just had orientation). We have 7 guys.

35 year old in the bay area. We have a class of 22 students, and there are 5 dudes including myself in it. We have enough to start a fight club!

What's up fellas!! I'm a junior in a bsn program. I have four semesters to go and can't wait to be done. A lot of my friends who graduated already says the junior is the toughest in a bsn program so I'm a little worried. My class has about 103 people in it. We have maybe 40 guys. Goodluck to u all who are just beginning a Nsg program or who's taking prereqs.

Specializes in Forensic Psych.

That's a LOT of guys! Close to 40%, eh? We have 5 out of 40.

Hey all-34, career changer. I start in the Masters Entry to Nursing at DePaul University in January. Excited and scared all at once. Getting married next fall and got a whole lot on the plate. But seriously can't wait!

41 yr old career changer. Only man in my class of 21. There are others in the program. Ithink there are five in the current day program.

This almost sounds like my story word for word (except for the Army). I have completed many of my pre-requisites to get into the program. I still need to take the nurses entrance exam in order to get into the program, but I can't seem to bring myself to do it (I know it sounds stupid), but I have gone so far and been through so many downs lately, that I can bare to fail.

How are you doing now?
