"working" when you're off...
Right, learn to say NO!!! And stop tooting your own horn because if you constantly do...others will want to as well. So don't be mad when they need a favor.

Ages of male nursing students?
I'm 26. Just started my RN program yesterday and luckily my incoming class has 11 males out of 48 students. All the professors seem to be shocked and excited about this lol.

Nursing pre-req issues.
Go by UIC if that's the program you're trying to get into. Also remember to get into a good nursing program those C's aren't going to cut it So the slacking off in highschool isn't going to work in college. And talking to a counselor is always good. Mine told me that a 3.5 was good but not going to get me into the nursing program and she was right! Alot of times prereqs are easier at the community college because the teacher focuses more on individuals and they're not as nasty about weeding people out so make sure you take as much as you can there. It's cheaper as well. PASS your classes the FIRST TIME!!! If not that would have defeated the purpose of trying to save time by getting into UIC. Take whatever prereqs you need not just what they want at the community college and transfer them over. Don't procrastinate. Learn what you need to. READ READ & READ! It'll save you time and energy in the future. Make sure you pay attention in A&P I because it'll make A&P II so much easier. Keep up with your exam dates. Especially any online quiz. TAKE EXTRA CREDIT ASSIGNMENTS! Make sure the grades that you receive at the community college carry over because some colleges WILL NOT accept a C period and will make you retake the class setting you back which is what you don't want. Believe in yourself and you'll do fine. I made the Dean's List twice and i felt like I was a slacker and could've done better and im no over achiever nor was I the class nerd or anywhere near it. BUT ALL IN ALL I just got into my program and I start on Monday. Goodluck to you. Best wishes!

To all the students about to start nursing school...
6.) You're gonna cry at some point. 7.) At the same time, you're gonna have some of the most amazing smiles and laughs of your life.. 8.) The friends you will make in the program will truly be the only ones who get what you are going through. Because of this, you will make some of the best friends of your life. 9.) You will have moments where you go.."wow, I actually feel like I get this nursing thing!"...Then 5 minutes later you feel lost again. Totally normal. This post has helped me soooo much and I start class in less then 4 days. These points above stood out to me the most. I laughed knowing that i'm about to cry during this process. To know that one needs not bottle up all those emotions and that there will be brighter days makes it all worth the while. I really appreciate the advice and believe me I will be contacting you for more advice. You're my 1st bookmark by the way! Congratz on your completion and goodluck with your future!!! Be blessed! And thank you again!

Being Gay and a Male Nursing Student
I'm so glad that I ran across this post! I recently got into nursing school and i'm very anxious about starting Fall 2012. Before attempting to go down this path I had a problem with my sexuality and said that I would never go into nursing because of the degree of difficulty of the prereqs and the negative view i thought males received but God had other plans lol. I never received so many A's in my life until i got into the nursing major. I already know that people expect me to fail being gay black and having dreads on top of that. I see the looks and I hear the comments but it's fine though. My to hell with all of you Miami attitude has been keeping me afloat. I like to break stereotypes though. Hell I love when people have my name in their mouth. Knowing that i'm on your mind shows that i'm doing something for your attention. I am not overly flamboyant (although I do have my slight mannerisms) but I know that my accept no b.s. attitude has protected me from getting bullied in the past and will hopefully do so in the future. All in all I just hope this experience is a smooth one. I'll keep you all posted though. Ttys!
