The Florida job market cannot be this bad?!

I am still applying to jobs and to no avail! The 27th will make it 1 whole year to the date that I have graduated as a FNP student and Sept will make it a year since I have been certified. I have been on interviews, contacted recruiters, called all physicians that I know, hooked up with all current ARNPs that I know, and revamped my CV. What gives?! Most jobs have passed me by because I only speak one language although I am working on learning others. Another factor is that I do not have experience and I keep getting the "I do not have time to train" phrase. I can't relocate either because of family dynamics and I am beginning to give up. My other classmates are not doing so well either. The managed to get into PT positions but the pay is horrible. Is this what advanced practice nursing all about? I didn't think it would be a field of roses but this is beginning to be nonsense. I have paper cuts on my hands from the amount of CV's I have mailed out. I'm hopeless.

The job market stinks every where. Re-location may be your only option in the long run. I think there will be many in your position very soon....I don't think OBAMA care will help the situation.

Do you live in South Florida???

Yes I do live on South Florida. Right at the bottom if the map. Miami to be exact. The market is saturated they say and too many nurses are returning back to school and leaving the bedside by the droves. Everyone here wants at least 2 years experience or will consider less but with lower pay. One job I saw was even as low as $36 an hour.

Florida practice REALLY sucks.

Florida pay sucks. If you can go west the pay is much better or maybe the east coast pay is also good.!
Specializes in OR.

Are you looking only in Miami? How about Broward or Palm Beach county? That makes me nervous bc I am in school for FNP and can't move due to family reasons as well.

I am looking in all the tri-county areas. I even drove an hour to Homestead almost near the Speedway for an interview back in May and they still haven't made a decision yet. It's a HRSA facility and they pay sucks but the benefits are awesome. I am honestly going to stop looking. I'm tired of the let down.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience in FL! Here in the NJ/PA area, there are lots of jobs, and I have been surprised by the number that say they are willing to take on new grads. How about something like United Health Care, with all their jobs evaluating medicare patients in home visits? Anything like that in FL?

Oh yes, there are tons of UHC jobs like that here. I have applied but heard nothing back as of yet. It's kind of embarrassing you know especially when your old coworkers who worked on the floor with you told you that there were no NP jobs and you find out that they are right.

Im a Miami gal too :( I feel you.

What can we do?

A lot of getting a job depends on being in the right place and the right time. You also have to be able to sell yourself to the interviewer as the person they are looking for. I would recomend you start reading some of the self help books on salesmanship and even How to win friends and influence People. This information has helped me throughout my career. Dont be the bland person who just gets passed over.
