President Biden and former President Donald Trump have agreed to a pair of presidential debates hosted by television networks, circumventing the schedule and traditional format proposed by the Commission on Presidential Debates.
Biden and Trump will first debate on June 27. The event, hosted by CNN and announced by the network and the respective campaigns, will not feature an audience and will take place at CNN's Atlanta studios.
The second debate, hosted by ABC News, will be Sept. 10. A location has not yet been announced.
Oh boy. No live audience in the studio for Trump to play to.

Biden campaign chair Jen O'Malley Dillon said the president was willing to take part in two debates hosted by broadcast organizations. But she said the commission — which has hosted debates since 1988 — is "out of step with changes in the structure of our elections and the interests of voters."
The commission had announced back in November that there would be three debates in September and October. But O'Malley Dillon said its schedule begins too late, after tens of millions of people have cast their ballots in early voting, and said the commission failed to enforce debate rules in 2020.

Shutting off the microphone of the candidate when their time is expired will help Trump to regulate himself and his speech when others are speaking. It will save the repeat embarrassment of Trump being told to shut up when he acts like a rude and disruptive child.

"The campaign is really getting into it and involved this year in [platform committee] races in states,” a veteran Republican operative who has done work in the past for the RNC said. "There is a sense among them that the platform should not be pushed too far to the right on a few issues, but I keep hearing abortion and marriage specifically.”
"The insertion I am seeing is very odd,” said another longtime RNC member of the involvement of Trump's allies in the selection of platform committee members. "It's definitely out of the ordinary from past experiences; some are concerned that they only want to engage to change or control it.”
"I think obviously the [former] president will get what he wants, which is appropriate,” added the person, who has previously sat on the RNC's Platform Committees. "But it's currently a conversation within the party.”
The RNC's current platform mentions "abortion" 35 times, including opposition to the use of federal funds to perform or promote abortions, and support for state's abilities to ban abortion providers from federal programs like Medicaid.
Trump is good at creating a false or misleading narrative to hide behind when it comes to his right wing extremist agenda. Maybe the GOP and team Trump thought that not having a party platform in 2020 hurt them in the actual election. Now their challenge is to try to conceal the zealotry and extremism in the language.
