I traditionally have a thread heading to the election, here we go.
Get out the popcorn for this one.
QuoteFlorida Gov. Ron DeSantis is expected to formally announce next week he is running for president in 2024, NBC News reported Thursday, citing two sources familiar with the matter.
The governor's official entry into the Republican primary field will put him head-to-head with former President Donald Trump, the party's current frontrunner for the nomination. Trump has already spent months treating DeSantis as his primary campaign rival, thrashing him with torrents of criticism over his gubernatorial record, his political skills and his personality.
Inflation down, unemployment low, housing prices leveling out, no wars that US soldiers are directly involved in. And people think Biden isn't doing a good job.
People think a demented old fool who spouts nonsense like being a dictator for a day, Al Capone was great, and saying a general thinks he was brave should be reelected.
People are stupid.

Propaganda works. We see today that even reputable media will repeat propaganda simply because lots of important people have said it and millions believe them. An example is the life about the 2020 election and how many believe that or the lies about covid and how many believed those because they saw, read about or heard the president repeat the misinformation and lies.

It's not just the president. Media outlets amplify his and other MAGA enthusiasts by repeating their lies without pushback. Things like open borders, violent crime, and the Biden crime family.

I won't say "people are stupid. Instead I'll go with @toomuchbaloney and say that "propaganda works".
For example, people hear the WH brag about "Bidenomics " and "Inflation Reduction Act". Some then come to the conclusion that "inflation is down".
The most recent rate of inflation released was 3.2%. It was in the high 1's and low 2's when Trump was in office. Cumulative inflation is somewhere around 18% since Biden took office.
Not only do some think "inflation is down", but they also think Biden somehow fixed it.
People may not be stupid, but propaganda indeed does work.
Inflation has come down, in part due to fixing supply chain issues, more stable petroleum supplies, and improvements to transportation infrastructure. And yes, the administration has taken steps to improve those things.
I have previously acknowledged that the Inflation Reduction Act was poorly named. Just because a bill has a silly name, doesn't mean Biden is doing a poor job.
Biden and his chiefs of staff have chosen well-qualified people to serve as his cabinet heads. And he hasn't needed to fire a single one (via Tweet) since he came into office.

And no one had to leave because of grifting. There seemed to be a list fir the Trump administration.
It's really hard to compare presidencies because of world circumstances. Trump ended with some pretty miserable numbers but world events like covid were a culprit. Also some of those very same events kept inflation down so to compare things like unemployment and inflation without taking into consideration world events isn't something I'm interested in.
World events like war and covid ending likewise affected things like inflation. While I think it's fair to say inflation has come down, it's not fair to say "well under Trump it was better". Just like it's not fair to say things like under Trump the economic growth was slow at the end of his presidency. Apples and oranges.
I'm happy to see inflation down, Biden effect or not. It still isn't at the target 2% but I'm glad runaway price increases seems to month to month settled down some.
I was happy with the good economic news up until covid under Trump. I filled up half a tank of gas today because it's at a new low I haven't seen around here in a long time.

Trump inherited an economy that had been trending positively from Obama's recovery of Bush's economic troubles. None of the data from Trump's single term demonstrated some improvement in employment or growth that wasn't already on that Obama trajectory. Trump proved that he was incapable of honesty or responsible leadership during a pandemic. His words and actions caused harm to both our economy and our population. Still, millions of Americans pledge to return him to power. They somehow think that the fellow who tried to cheat himself into a second term and muses about terminating our constitution (or insufficiently loyal generals) should again hold the most powerful office in the country, because propaganda works.
Trump also gave away boatloads of money in the form of tax breaks, forgiven PPP loans, and those pandemic checks that had his signature. And ran up the deficit that now needs to be paid down. Keeping inflation down is easy when you use money you don't have. Oh, and then fire IRS so rich tax cheats don't get caught.

I agree with all that.
My response was to those who say that folks who aren't approving of Biden's job performance (which is 60 to 65% of the voters) must be stupid or victims of propaganda. Then to show how good a job Biden is doing they point to the things that were the same or better under Trump.

Agree. Saying the reasons why you approve of Biden's performance (lower inflation, low unemployment, etc.) doesn't mean that people that disapprove for other reasons (the border, crime, the Israel-Hamas War (Democrats are voicing their disapproval), etc.) doesn't mean they are a victim of propaganda. We all see the world and interpret what's important to us.
I read a poll a few months ago that the disapproval rating of both Trump and Biden are pretty low and equal. Which is interesting because they are likely to be the choices next year.
I also read a poll that nearly 1/3rd of Americans don't believe the election results and that Trump lost. That's stunning to me and I think we can come with examples of "propaganda works".
