When people find out I'm a nurse these days, they keep thanking me for my service, like they do to the military. I want to roll my eyes at this point. Is this happening to you?

Maybe just my observation ...
Maybe jealousy because of their academic achievements and saturation in popular universities and competitive high schools requiring entrance exams.

uhm.. and regular violation of human rights as well as (non existent) animal rights? While I would love to visit China, I know it's no paradise either.

I would say, definitely. DJT convinced some people that Asian Americans somehow brought in the virus... even though they're Americans...? Here in the Bay Area there have been so many attacks, in SF, Oakland, all over the Peninsula, so bad. I can't believe it. I saw a video where one older woman fought back with her cane and I'm so happy she's OK. So scary

The most dangerous jobs historically are deep sea fishing and mining.
But there is danger in lots of jobs - law enforcement, fire fighting, ER, Corrections, and Psych nursing, race car driving to name a few.
Infectious disease workers (like everyone amo lucia named) and many more.
Being a pastor like James Coates at Grace Church in Alberta, Canada.

Stuff like that just points out to me that we all need to be cleansed of sin and become reborn, washed in the blood of Jesus. We see how evil humankind can be. Come back now, Jesus, Lord God Almighty.

We ALL need to be washed?
Yeah sure, because that is going to help the Asians who are being quite severely beaten in some cases by putative christians.

I agree with your overall premise GrumpyRN, but "Christians" are not the only group to perpetuate this bad behavior. Racism/sexism/xenophobia are committed by people of any religious standing (or lack thereof), sex, nationality, etc. The common denominator is that those acting that way are just nasty pieces of garbage...
Putting my soapbox away now...

I usually say "don't thank me, stay healthy".

Ktvu had an article a couple months ago, the vast majority of the attacks on old Asian people in the Bay Area are being done by professional criminals who usually target tourists. Because covid restrictions has drastically reduced tourism, they’ve unfortunately turned their sights on the next easiest prey, elderly Asian people.
the media is has shifted the blame on trump and “white supremecists,” but if you do a little digging you’ll find almost none of the perpetrators have been white at all.

Right, because Fox is such a reliable and unbiased source.

I agree and I am not pointing fingers as the UK has a problem with so many white Anglo Saxons hating "Johnny foreigner" hence "Brexit."
