A patient comes in saying "I think I have a allergy to peanuts" what is the nurses best response? A. What reaction did you have when eating the peanuts? B. What makes you think you are allergic to peanuts? C. Do you have other allergies besides peanuts? D. What time did these problems arise?
GrayTimelessBeauty 34 Posts Apr 15, 2015 What kind of reaction was it....best choice. Your gonna wanna know if it was a mild response or more like anaphylaxis.

Find out why they think this, maybe a family member is allergic, or they had symptoms when they were near peanuts. As for A, they haven't actually stated that they have eaten peanuts before.

Creedyfbaby 31 Posts Apr 15, 2015 I said B. The teacher said I was reading too much into it and because we are on nutrition chapter I should have known the answer was A.

What time did these problems arise?I would say B... A is assuming he had a reaction, C would be a follow-up question, D also assumes he has a problem.. B is the only one that allows a patient to state why they think they have an allergy, it may be that he has had a reaction, but it would permit the patient to explain more, show, and describe in more detail

Jolie, BSN 6,375 Posts Specializes in Maternal - Child Health. Has 37 years experience. Apr 15, 2015 A is not an appropriate answer, as allergic reactions to peanuts can occur with topical contact or inhalation of peanut dust. To choose A assumes that the client ingested the peanuts, which s/he did not state.

If it said "what kind of reaction did you have to peanuts " it would be a better answer
