Tell me am I the only "old"LVN at Excelsior College?

Published

:specs: I moved to Texas from Canada ,had to fight to get my LVN license

(had a LPN from canada)..

now I am doing correspondence via NEW YORK to get my RN (AS in Nursing)

I'm sure there are many of you out there who are going that route or who have accomplished it already??????

My question .....is there any Grandma's like me .....

Hey,

I am 48.:wink2:

And don't worry my psych professor says we older folks have crystallized intelligence. Not fossilized.

What we lack in processing speed we make up for in determination!

Suesquatch,

May is almost here. How excited/nervous are you?

Have you gone to a workshop?

How are your nerves holding up?

Best of luck to you! I know you will do great!

I'm nervous more because I have a lot going on than I am about passing the exam. I guess it's because I'm older but hey, if I fail I can take it again.

It's a clinical exam. I'm taking the workshop so that I know what the examiners want. I'm quite comfortable with my clinical skills. Now I have to know what they want, y'know?

I'm excited because it gives me options I don't have as an LPN. I can work hospice, trauma, home health - I am not tied to LTC or a doctor's office, y'know? Now, I live in a rural area and LPN's are used in hospitals but we are paid nothing - I earned more as a word processor almost 20 years ago - and rode hard and put away wet. Plus, I can never, as an LPN, aspire to anything other than hard work on the floor.

I was hired into an informatics spot and the LPN did that, coupled with that I'm continuing on in school. That I keep learning was important to them.

And thanks for asking!

:)

Oh, I AM taking the workshop! No doubt about it! I need to know what THEY want.

I live in Ohio. Is there a workshop near here or should I invest in the DVD materials available from her? Thanks for any advise you can give me. And good luck to all who are taking it this month!!!

You're only as old as you feel when you wake up in the morning. There are lots of people in your decade that are doing EC. They may be attracted by not having the constraints of traditional programs. Easier to work while doing EC. So if you want to, go for it.
